Can anyone help with a query regarding travel insurance - we are going to France next month and I was wondering if we have to get insurance to cover our motorhome as well as ourselves (we have overseas travel on our vehicle insurance)

Your vehicle obviously needs comprehensive cover for Europe. Many insurances only cover for 30, 60, or 90days in Europe but some, like Saga cover all year.

Its also a good idea to have breakdown insurance for your vehicle that covers Europe. This will tow you off the road in a breakdown or accident to a garage locally of choice(ie main agent for your van)If your van can't be repaired promptly they will repatriate it & you back to UK. You have to pay for parts & repairs tho, unless still under manufacturers warranty.

If you already have UK breakdown insurance, contact them it can be upgraded to cover Europe for an extra payment.

Hi

I assume you mean that your UK insurance policy will provide cover whilst on the continent, for a set number of days.  As in the UK this will cover fire, theft & accidental damage, but will not cover you for breakdown situations.  You will need to arrange seperate cover for that, either for the period of your holiday, or on an annual basis.  Google "european breakdown cover"  for lots of alternatives!

Travel insurance (Cheaper to get annual cover if you go away more than once a year) ... make sure you are covered for medical/accident insurance ... always carry the new EU Health Insurance Card (it replaced the old 111) ... vital to carry ... we had a marvellous free italian hospital operation and care ...
Make sure you are covered for personal possessions ... sometimes your home insurance might do this ... avoid dual cover via different insurances.
Some bank accounts include some free travel/recovery insurance e.g. Co-op and Santander ... but check the details.
