There are three places that need filling in, one is to say they've done the tick treatment, one to say they've been wormed and one to say they're fit to travel. They have to enter the name of the treatment they've used, the time they did it and their practise stamp and signature.

I find taking the meds is cheaper but I buy them online.

Sorry to disagree with you jaymac

The part that says they are 'Fit to travel' - Section IX Clinical Examination does not have to be filled in, check the Defra site.

The Tick & Tape Worm section each have enough space for 15 stamps (trips), the 'Fit to travel' only has space for 5 stamps. The vets at Alencon did fill in that section but in 2009 we used the vet at Eperlecques and they did not fill in that section, when we queried it, he said it was not needed and the Tunnel staff never looked at that section. I later checked the Defra site and he was right.

The time has to be written using the 24hr clock format IE 15h00

Read this leaflet especially section 10

The Vet we used at Etaples filled in VI Tick Treatment and VII Echinococcus Treatment pages with his Vet Practice stamp, the date and time.

The  IX Cinical Treatment page had his stamp and date only.

You must check the date and time are correct or you will almost certainly have a problem going through Pet Passport control.

Although it may not be essential to have the Clinical Examination page stamped and dated it's probably best to have it done in case some jobsworthy French Custom official who is having a bad day decides your going nowhere fast without the page having a stamp on it.

And the ensuing argument in French isn't going to be won by you!

It will be cheaper to use your own treatments but make sure the Vet understands what you want to use before he starts examining your dog.

Dogs are best left out of premises that sell any type of food such as Supermarkets, bakers, butchers etc - you wouldn't want a puddle or worse being left on the floor of your local Supermarket and the French don't either.

Make sure the Cafe, Bar, Brasserie or Restaurant owners are aware of you taking a dog inside as not every eating establishment will accept dogs - although most will.

I have seen owners of large dogs being turned away - but it hasn't been very often.

The "fit to travel" section has always been filled in on ours. Once the first five spaces were full the vets turned the page and started writing the stuff on the next page instead. I didn't realise it wasn't essential.
