Hi Archie, silly me, sorry for me misreading and being a typical Scot thinking something was  for free. Anyway still going to download your pois. Goodwork and keep it up. Will post back after holiday.

I have not downloaded POI's before but I have a Garmin Nuvi 255 (Europe) which takes a micro SD.  Can anyone please talk me through the process to download French Campsite POI's to my laptop. (I am particularly interested in the ACSI sites)

I have an adapter to fit my laptop.

I have got as far as the "download" page on the site and selected France. There are 2 files there plus a word doc which I have read.

Which one (or both?) do I download and can I please have step by step instructions?

Oxter

You download a zip file from Archie and in that zip file will be the instructions, a database file and a small image file. Its the last two that you need to load onto your sat nav and they go into the map folder. I would suggest saving the zip file to your desktop. Connect your sat nav to the computer and open 'My Computer' You should now be able to see your sat nav as an extra drive. Go back to the desktop and unzip the downloaded file and right mouse click and copy the two files I mentioned. Go back to My Computer and open up the files on the sat nav and just paste the copied files into the map folder.

Hi Oxter, hopefully someone else will help.  As I've said I'm only the messenger, and we don't even have a SatNav.  My version of downloading POI's is to go to the local bookshop and buy a new Michelin Atlas then stick it in the glove compartment!

If no-one comes along who knows what they're talking about then I'll quite happily email 'Archie' to ask him to respond.  I'm sure he'll do his best to help.

Sorry, I have brought you in trouble! The wrong position of the Bonneval campsite has been deleted already in my dbase.

at Kelper

Walking on water is not the problem, but I have to admit it is a little tough with the caravan on my back!

But joking apart, please tell me what has been the problem of the position of Picos de Europa you have had? It is the only way for me to do anything about it!

Have a good holiday!

I've only put 'archies' on my Garmin Nuvi 265WT satnav this year and do agree with other posts as to its usefullness. Though I could do with a link to a POI download for services and rest areas for toll and non-motorways France and Spain, does anyone have any links?

One more thing, I've just found out how to use Garmin Map Source which is proving a very useful program. Nearer sites we intend using I've been using a combination of Google Earth and Street View to ascertain the best route from the motorway/A road to avoid narrow roads that aren't really suitable for towing the caravan along, it lets you block off roads you think are unsuitable on the map and then transfer the route you wish to use as a 'favourite' back on to your satnav. Its clear there are date differences between Google Earth aerial view and the actual street view, In one case on street view I came across a traffic island that showed it under construction on one picture then when I clicked the next picture along (about 10m) it showed it finished with grass growing on it!!!
