If you want car hire, onward travel, hotels paid for, replacement driver etc then you will have to look at the UK offerings. I have that with this company who use Green Flag. They offer the same services as Red Pennant but the amounts are not quite as high I think. High enough for me though. The cover seems pretty good but you would have to compare both policies to see if you aare happy with the rates involved and that they cover your outfit and requirements.

At least the company quoted above makes it quite clear that the caravan is covered 'when attached to the towing vehicle'.  Many other companies don't make it as easy to find out just what cover is provided for the caravan.

thanks for the replies,
i have decided that i will go with Red Pennant this time, I hope i don't have to use them anyway ( it looks to be the best all round service)
Is it worth going for the 'Plus' service or just the standard, extra £40???
I have always used RAC before , but that was only because i used to have uk cover with them via tesco vouchers. Not coverd car this year for uk.

I have free UK cover (via GreenFlag) with my Santander Premium Account.
Extended this for one year's cover on the continent for £55.

I think the Plus is possibly more relevant to people who are going off on longer trips and might need the extra levels of cover for longer term car hire or alternative accomodation. For shorter trips standard RP should be adequate.

Just did an on line quote from both CC Red Pennant and euro assist .

2010 vauxhall insignia + 2009 conway crusader.  26 days  cover for France in August.

CC Red Pennant £115 standard cover not Plus

Euro assist £ 105.

Which is the best one to go for, not worried about the £10 difference.

Anyone had to use them and what was your opinion

Most definatly Red Pennant , There are no,How can I say, unexspected clauses in their policys that many other companys have. if anything goes wrong you can be sure that they will get you to your destination & get your car & Trailer  home.

Some others will get you home but your holiday may be cut short,or if your car is incapacitated while the trailer is not attached  they will not bring the trailer home,or if the cost of repatriation of the car exceeds the value of the car they will not bring home the car or the trailer.

Red Pennant is dedicated to caravaners & those towing & not simply a car based recovery service with added extras

Europ Assistance say that if you just pay insurance for car then they bring car back, and if you pay for car AND caravan then they bring both back - even if they are in different places when accident happens. But they too say they will only recover vehicles that are worth the cost of doing it

Our Green Flag cover is trailer/FC/van when attached to vehicle.
If it's not attached (i.e. in a campsite), it's not much of a problem as I have access to another car in France, and the F/C is stored in France.
For those requiring everything back to UK, then it makes sense to have that fully covered.

Ye gads... Talk about confusing!!!

I must admit I was looking at the AA as interestingly they now offer a £500 "parts" budget for a little extra which doesn't seem to be ontop of the labour charge.

Just waiting a few more days before trying Swiftcover who I'm insured with (usual won't quote for the european trip until 30days before.) see what their breakdown cover would be.

As we're not towing this year (Canvas Hols) be will be taking bikes on a rear rack would that affect who people would recommend?

Cheers
Rob
