Hi, I'm sure this has been brought up before but I've serched and can't find anything

When we go abroad we always use the AA, we don't tow so it's specifically for a car in Europe. I'm considering changing my motor cover to RAC, does anyone know what the major differences are on their Euro cover as looking at them they're pretty much the same and as such will choose the RAC but I'm a big fan of the AA and will stay with them if their Euro cover trumps the RAC?

I know a lot of you recommend other companies and the like but I personally prefer one of these two and to be honest will only use these and not consider anyone else. foolish, maybe but that's me

So can anyone help?

J

Use ADAC.  That way you still get RAC or AA (if you break down in the UK), but it is much cheaper for an annual policy......and it provides other benefits in addition to breakdown cover.

I've just started reading up on ADAC but do they not offer onward travel? I'd still plump for the orginal 2 in my post though

Sorry - can't recommend either of them especially now that the RAC is being privatised. We long ago gave up AA and transferred to ETA who don't get involved in politics or making profits for their shareholders but stick to getting your car repaired and you safely home. However, they became relatively expensive and we realised that we were effectively covered by our car insurance (home and abroad)  - with different insurers (Co-op and M&S amongst them) we have had roadside repair and rescue from Green Flag and RAC without the extra charge.

So our answer is neither - just check the small print in your insurance policy - and change it if necessary!

I've used my Santander premium account, which includes Green Flag cover for UK and got a European extension for a year at £55.
Anything you are towing has thesame cover whilst being towed ... hey! you can claim £10 if you are not attended to within an hour! ... hmmm ... enough to stop a passing ice-cream van???

Yes, ADAC gets many good reviews. And for those who want a specific assurance that their caravan AND car will both be brought back to UK - even if they are in separate places when the accident or breakdown occurs - then Europ Assistance  does provide that service, whereas some other insurers don't.
