Excellent....you can give me some advice!! We are travelling down from Northumberland to Newhaven on Friday 5th August. We have always used Portsmouth so this route is new to us. it looks like we have to negotiate the M25. i think we should hit it about early to mid afternoon. What's it like this time of day and would you say to avoid it?

Driving on a Friday you will find the evening rush hour starts about 1.00 o'clock in the afternoon, but is over by about 6.00 o'clock. Traffic does move but only slowly. I would come down the A1 and turn off onto A14 and down the M11. Reduces the amount of time on the M25!!

now I'm really worried.  We travel from Calais to Chambord on Fri the5th and then on the 6th move on down to les peneyrals near sarlat.  Wish I'd just taken the decision to do calais to sarlat in one hit now!  Especially as it's our first trip to France.  can't change it as staying in a mobile home.  Is it really going to be that bad?   should we head off really early on the Sat if so how early?
