Hi all,

I know the toll road service stations are expensive but Im driving to the Ardeche during the night on toll roads most of the way down ( sat 6th aug , blk saturday see other post)

My first question is , do the service stations on the toll roads stay open all night like in the uk.

secondly does the service station just outside the euro tunnel terminal stay open all night , if so is the price of diesel cheaper there than a  garage near folkstone and secondly a service station within about 50 miles of calais using toll roads only, sorry dont know road number of the top of my head.

Yes, they do stay open all night for fuel.

Which way are you heading to the Ardeche?  There's a service station just north of Arras on the A26. 

You can use the French Government fuel price  website to look at the prices along your route, and to decide whether it's worth travelling to the next service station or not?  (Use Google translate as it's only available in French).

Yep just had chance to check route,going down the A26.

Fuel is still cheaper than the uk I believe.

At the tunnel in France diesel is 1 euro 38 which is around £1.25ish depending on your rate of exchange. It is still cheaper than the uk although the savings are not as great as they used to be.

You may find that pumps become self payment after a cetain time of day. For several years we have always filled up at the Carrefour in the Cite d'Europe and previously there was a manned cashdesk but this year only the self payment pumps were open and this was the middle of the day. Having said that it was not a problem and the instructions will come up in English if you press the right buttons, guess who didn't!

Thanks David - I'd just come back on to add that information, as I realised it could be misleading if you were expecting a fully open station.  We'd come across an unmanned service area this year - but our card was accepted everywhere this year, with no problems at all.  Is there an option to pay with cash too, just out of interest?

Val I was so busy trying to tap the screen when I should have been using the keypad that I did not notice!!!! I have come across fuel stations in Italy where you could only use cash which confused me until a nice young lady on a moped explained it to me!
