Any recommendations for a wide screen SatNav for western Europe? What to buy, Garmin or Tom Tom?.... bought a MioMap a few years ago, brilliant bit of kit until unable to buy any form of map upgrade and terribly let down by the Mio company so recommendations appreciated for new model, thanks

I have used a garmin for four years now which has been very good. Some people prefer tom toms. You pays your money and makes your choice I suppose. You can buy a lifetime update card for the Garmin, which is what I have done. Amazon was the cheapest place for the update card.

Halfords have a good sale on at the moment. Hope this helps.

The Garmin 255W and the 245W (Dixons exclusive) have now gone EOL in Currys and Pc World, priced at £59 paid £99 for my 255W back in February 2010, it worked a treat for our July 2010 fortnight in the Ardeche, many ACSI campsites are pre-loaded, although it's easy to download the full ACSI listing and Archies Campsites as I did, all for free. also most of the budget hotels are stored, which is handy for overnight stops.

To bring new life to ur mio, have u thgt about unlocking it & running other software on it? u could run tomtom or igo primo [my recommendation] on it with the latest maps etc.
if you google around u will find some helpful sites with "evaluation" software etc.

I have just bought the garmin 1340. I have used it once and like it. However I cannot work out if it is possible to see on the screen before you leave where the satnav is going to take me, obviously after i have programmed it. I will be going to Devon in August from Norfolk and if I feed the postcodes in it will hopefully get me there. I would however still like to see the route beforehand, so I can make some changes if I don't like it(eg I may like to avoid M25}
If this is not possible then you may not want to buy the garmin. Thank you for any suggestions.

The best satnav I have had has been my nokia 5230, The best bit about it is the free worldwide mapping provided by Nokia. Worth considering if your mobile contract is up for renewal. they use navtec maps which most other good satnavs use. also you can update the maps at anytime.

When you wake up in the morning to the sounds and sights of the campsite, ask yourself one question.....who's nicked my tent?????
