We will be visiting Cognac for the day and I have been reading up about the various tours. We will have teenagers with us and cant decide on the best one. Does anyone have any experience of any of them. Also I notice that you can book some of them in advance is this necessary or can you just turn up on the day.

It is a good few years ago but we enjoyed the Hennessey tour.

For a licence dated 1997 or later you must add together the plated max weight of the caravan and trailer, if the total is 3500 or less you can tow it. You may even tow a caravan with a MAM greater than the cars unladen mass the restriction was removed in 2013

We went on the Hennessey one last year. Was the first one we came to after following various signs for Courvoisier and Martell and not finding them! Was very good.

Hi.

We've done these over the years:
Martell - in Cognac, very interesting, good free tasting, but they openly admit they don't make brandy, just age it, blend and bottle it.
Henessey - in Cognac, same as Martell but they put in a little trip across the river.
Courvoisier - in nearby Jarnac, otherwise similar.
Bisquit - out of Cognac, in the Chateau de Ligneres, on the road to Rouillac. They do everything; grow and harvest the grapes, make and then distill the wine, age, blend and bottle it. However when we went they were part of the Ricard group and have since been taken over by a South African wine company.

Your best bet will be to pick up one of the leaflets for each available from the Tourist office, and then decide.
I do remember that from more than one tour, I didn't dare go near the car for an hour or two; just the smell is intoxicating!

Henessey, was very nice. Interesting tour and lovely tasting. Now have a passion for chilled VSOP with dry ginger. Only bought one bottle back, must sort that out this year!

Otard is the best, in my experience - housed in a really interesting building too - and you get to taste some really expensive stuff at the end! We will never go to Hennessy again after some very rude staff there on a previous visit.

We went on the Hennessey one last year and thought it was excellent. Boat trip and cognac tasting, can't go wrong can you??

ended up buying some very expensive cognac and rather snazzy glasses to enjoy it in!!

I think we will probably do the Hennesey one purely because the boat trip may be more of a sway for the children.

Looks like you'll be going when we are there. We go on the 12th :-) not sure I'll do another Cognac tour though this year :-( if you can go to Bordeaux, dune du Pyla another place would be St Emilion, we went to those places 2 years ago but not last year, however we plan to do them this year. One tour we did last year which was pretty amazing was the tour of prehistoric caves at Lascaux but book in advance to get on an English speaking one. anyway whatever you do you'll love it!

We have done Remy Martin, Henessey and Otard and rate Remy Martin the best.

Remy is just out of Cognac and the tour takes you on a Petit Train through the caves and the cooper area where they make their own barrels.

Remy Accord Royal 1738 is the best

Another vote for Remy Martin - have done it twice now very interesting and they are happy to take children on the tour too.

They sell all the various sorts in their shop inc the ones usually only available in Hong Kong like Remy Club.

when I was about 12 (a fair few years ago now) we did Hennessey, Otard, Martell, Camus and Remy Martin. I came home full of information and did a school project on it. Really enjoyed our few days and still remember it now

Although I really didnt want to go. At the time Martell was the best to my memory because as i was to young to drink I got tonnes of free gifts
