We play the alphabet game on loads of different topics. Our favourites are Harry Potter characters (16 yr old daughter) and historical events/people (history nerd son!). There's also 'I'm thinking of an animal, it's a mammal...' etc, this kept our children entertained for ages when they were younger but is still good for a laugh now (esp with my husband who ALWAYS has types of fish!).
If you can squeeze chess in then that can keep people busy for ages, usually til its too dark to see.
