I would like to treat myself to a lightweight, slim, digital camera so I can take photos when we are camping. I have a Sony which must be 7 years old and it weighs a ton and so I don't take it anywhere. I have looked at Argos and Jessops etc etc and I am dithering. There are just too many to choose from and so many specifications. I was thinking of spending not more than £100. Does anyone have any suggestions, experiences good and bad. Please!
Cheers Belinda

I was given one to use for work and I was so impressed that when I left I went straight out and bought another one. Really easy to use and came highly recommended by the IT and Media dept.
If you go for any of the well known camera brands I doubt you can go far wrong. Ref your budget, it might pay to be a little flexible if you can so you get the best one for you. Sometimes the cheaper cameras use disposable batteries but a tenner extra might get a rechargeable battery. My only issue with compact cameras these days is few of them have viewfinders. In very bright sunshine even the best lcd screens struggle to cope.
Spare rechargeable AA batteries are cheap to buy. A charger may be included with the camera but again cheap to buy. Spare SD memory cards are also cheap. Image stababliser is good to have [combats camera shake]. x4, x5 or bigger 'Optical' zoom is nice to have.
David mentions absence of a viewfinder on budget cameras, has your old Sony a viewfinder. If you haven't used a viewfinder then it may not be an issue for you.

I do agree with David about the lack of viewfinders. Yes my Sony has a viewfinder and it would be good to have one, but I don't think that's looks like a possiblity at the price I can pay. Will check out all the suggestions, thankyou everyone.
I have a Canon Ixus 70 - which is really small and neat, and even in the case, happily fits into my 'smallish' handbag. It will go in a pocket, and I think it takes great photographs. It does have a viewfinder, but personally, I find I hardly use it as the screen quality is good enough in almost all weather conditions. It's easy to use, and I'd certainly recommend the Canon range.
I have just treated myself to this from Argos. It is 14 mps and so far I am very pleased with it. Easy to use and small, slim and light. It takes lovely photos and the best bit is the amazing price.

Yes I know, sorry it too late when I noticed where I put it. I had been checking out camping abroad and thought I'd ask about the camera and lo and behold here it is. OOOps.
