Hi new to this forum so hello to everyone.

We are travelling from Calais arriving on 1040 P&0 ferry on monday 8/8/11 to Saint Jean de Monts to arrive on site for Wednesday 10/8/11. Trying to get the feel for travelling times for this route ( back caravanning after 13 year gap last in Vendee with caravan in 1998). I think i have 2 viable options,

1. Via Avranches for stop over in area

2 Via le Mans for stop over in area

Please can someone provide approximate tow times and site recommendations for 2 nights and also the tow time to the Vendee from the sites.

thanks

Walter

Is that 10:40 pm or am?

We went from calais to st jean de monts at whit, but we had hired a static and did the journey in one go in our renault clio.  Good roads all the way.  We went via le mans.

I can't remember the times exactly, but if you stayed at le mans it would leave you with a comfortable 2 - 3 hour drive to st jean de monts.  Which site are you staying on.  The town has more roundabouts than anywhere I can remember.

Thne two routes you have chosen are both fast routes using French autoroutes. One is slightly longer than other but very much cheaper. Both routes will take you in the direction of Rouen from the ferry and it is here they take they seperate ways.

1. Avaranches. This route will head off towards Le Harve and then down to Caen and will be about 30 miles longer but there will be a lot less to pay in tolls so although a little longer in time it will be a lot less in money.

For an overnight stop on this route there is a small town called Pontaubault just 5 miles south of Avaranches. There is a site there, Le Vallee de la Salune, this would be ideal for an overnight. It's just off the autoroute and is English owned.

2 Le Mans. This would take the A28 from Rouen to Le Mans a very expensive autoroute. There are two place along this route you could use as an overnight, both municipals. The first is at Sees and the second a little further south at Beaumont-sur-Sarthe.

For the difference in time and money I think I would choose route 1

You could go one way and return the other and work it out for yourself.

Hope this helps

We are heading from Calais to Vannes next Thursday via Rouen, and have decided on on overnight stay at the B&B Hotel Chain in Rouen. Great deals at the moment of 39 euro's per night for a double room (we are sneaking the 2 kids in and blowing up an airbed for them). For week two we are heading to the Vendee and have booked another B&B Hotel in Calais on our final night as we have an early ferry home.

sorry forgot to add.

Whichever route you take you should arrive around lunchtime/early afternoon on the second day.

If you take the CAen route, and why not if you have a couple of days ? Then this site is also well commended for o/night stops

http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/details.asp?revid=6572  Camping le Puits

It is about 4/5 hrs from Calais and easy access from main route.
