Thne two routes you have chosen are both fast routes using French autoroutes. One is slightly longer than other but very much cheaper. Both routes will take you in the direction of Rouen from the ferry and it is here they take they seperate ways.
1. Avaranches. This route will head off towards Le Harve and then down to Caen and will be about 30 miles longer but there will be a lot less to pay in tolls so although a little longer in time it will be a lot less in money.
For an overnight stop on this route there is a small town called Pontaubault just 5 miles south of Avaranches. There is a site there, Le Vallee de la Salune, this would be ideal for an overnight. It's just off the autoroute and is English owned.
2 Le Mans. This would take the A28 from Rouen to Le Mans a very expensive autoroute. There are two place along this route you could use as an overnight, both municipals. The first is at Sees and the second a little further south at Beaumont-sur-Sarthe.
For the difference in time and money I think I would choose route 1
You could go one way and return the other and work it out for yourself.
Hope this helps
