It looked like we were so financially broke we would not have a summer holiday this year :-(   booo!

BUT we got 3 kids (age 11y, 6y & 4y) :-0   omg!

I won Royal Biarritz 6 Tent off eBAY £77 :-) horraay!

Living in Newcastle upon Tyne our summer is equivilant to a 40wat bulb in the sky. (that's on a hot day) The sun is never garanteed anywhere, but there are places where you can increase your odds. So at the cost of deisel expense (and kids + time in car = stress expense)
I am tentativly thinking about Frogs, I mean France. Bongure!

Here's my question:

Where (preferable not to many miles from Calais) would be a good place for the kids to hang out for a week?
* Reasonably Priced
* Decent facilities
* Beach
* Things to do
Date would be approx Sun 28th Aug - Sun 4th Sept.

Please pop me a suggestion, you can imagine the risk I am taking here so that the kids can have a summer to smile about, this thing could really backfire on me BIG TIME!
Please reply with a suggestion...Thanks everyone :-)

Here are a few to start you off

http://www.campingcheque.co.uk/france/picardy/  and you can book your ferry through them as well.    Some of the sites will accept camping cheques for 28th August onwards e.g  La Ferme des Aules and Le Val D'Authie.

Use Camping Cheques or an ACSI Card in France (www.campingcheque.co.uk or www.campingcard.co.uk) and you could pay between 11 and 15 euros for a night on site for two people, pitch, car and caravan (or tent) or motorhome, awning, and electric hook-up.  With ACSI the two under sixes would be free on some sites - look for the sites with a group of children - as three under sixes are included in the 11 to 15 euros.  Look through the websites, and then if you see anything you like come back on here for opinions.

Personally I'd go for somewhere with a decent indoor pool and plenty of organised activities for the children.  You could do with being nearish to a beach - so that if the weather is stunning then you could do the beach - or somewhere inland with other activities, such as Lac d'Orient (see campsite search on this website) in the Champagne/Ardennes region (visits to Champagne Producers possibly organised by the site) - great sanitary blocks, lakeside beach - not a lot within walking distance, but if you find plenty to do on site you might not want many trips out.

If you have Tesco vouchers put them towards deals, and use them towards your Eurotunnel crossing, otherwise try Norfolk Lines and P and O who both have some summer offers.  I can't remember details, but for a car the prices seemed pretty good.

I'm sure others will have plenty of suggestions.

Yes, go via the Tunnel and use Tesco tokens.

We go here, which is cunningly just about as far south as you need to go to get a change of climate. There are plenty of cheaper sites around too.

If you wanted something far simpler but still with a play area and a pool, there's a little site in Peronne that will set you back €20 a night and is a short walk into the village. It's about 2 hours from Calais and on the river Somme.

There are thousands of sites to choose from and I'm sure someone will suggest a few more. Meanwhile, reading our FAQ won't hurt.

Liz

If you have an ACSI card, there are 2 sites at St Valerie sur Somme, e15 per night. We stayed at Le Walric, not too far from the beach, indoor pool etc. Lovely Bay, not too far from Calais. Should be nice end August.
