Brittany Ferries are now booking for December and onwards and it is Portsmouth to Bilbao after the 23 Dec.

Just booked for the 27 Dec. on the Cap Finistre including a dog friendly cabin so can anyone predict the weather in the Bay of Biscay for around 11am on the 28 Dec.

No guessing allowed.

We were at Almafra this year and it wasn't our cup of tea but each to there own .
Don't think we met at La Manga although I did walk past you van a few time's but you were away at the time . Decided we wanted a change for 2012 so are giving La Manga a miss and will end up in Portugal after Conil I think .

Can anyone tell me if these long distance ferries have any provision for electric hook-ups whilst on board to keep the fridge cool?

David there is no EHU on board Brittany Ferries for caravans or Motor Homes although I don't see why they could not provide such a facility as refrigerated trailers are plugged in for the 24hour journey .
An easy solution would be to request a hookup when making a ferry booking and purchase a short EHU lead about 2 foot long with a male and female connection , connect it to your van before leaving the car deck and a member of the crew could connect the van up and again disconnect before disembarkation .

Thanks for that. I just wondered how people kept their fridge cool on a 24 hour crossing. Mind you having looked at the price of the crossing I doubt we will be using it as we generally have plenty of time to wander down through France.

must say mine just fits in the under 11mtr standard charge .we normally leave in november come back end of april. including the dog .on a plymouth to santander crossing . payed 583 last winter . thats no cabin just seats and friends and family booking. could be worth a few of you getting one between you. i use a friends hehee . i cant drive down and back through france for the cost of the long ferry. i do use a mitsubishi canter to pull my trailer at 16-17 mpg. but its only 24hr ,and save on wear n tear.

Hi a friend of mine is looking at sailing into Bilbao in Januaryy  . The ferry arrives at 1730 hours when it will be dark. He is heading towards the Med. Does anyone know of any decent campsites for him to get his head down before tackling the mountains and possible snow please?!

FAO Feeblecat

Re dogs to Spain. Check out the Brittany web site where you will find all details under "Pets". Kennels are OK, 2 or 3 sizes - depends on the ferry, + there are now 14 "dog friendly" cabins on the Cap Finistere. The cabins are 4 berth outside, en suite but with vinyl floor for cleaning after animals. We have used both kennels and a cabin on different trips with 3 border collies. We prefered the kennels as it gave us more freedom for meals etc.and as you have a swipe card allowing you to visit whenever you wish it was no problem. I spent quit a bit of time on the "dog exercise" deck, which although a bit windy, was fine. However, when full, it might be a bit noisier and crowded up there. Still, it is cheaper than boarding kennels for 3, lower toll fees and less fuel by avoiding France. As we live near to Portsmouth it saves that trip to Dover/Folkestone.
