Hi we are travelling to domain de forges in 2 weeks time in France for the first time are you allowed to travel with food in the fridge and freezer like milk and butter. we think the fridge will stay cold on the ferry and will be ok when we are driving but do customs stop you from carrying these items. Thanks Alison

Welcome to UKCS, Alison.

Yes, you can take what you want in the fridge - butter, milk, meat, and anything else that you want.  Best way to keep it cool is to freeze something like a litre carton of orange juice, and put it into the fridge just before you set off.  That way, along with connecting the fridge up to the car, via the hook-up,  it will stay cool until you get to wherever you are going.

Customs won't stop you - or stop you carrying anything these days - in fact it's very unlikely that you'll come up against 'Customs' at all.

We usually take meals which I make at home, and freeze, and keep these in a cool bag or in the fridge, so that they can  be heated up quickly once we arrive on site.

Your passport may be checked at Dover, and perhaps again when you land in France - but perhaps not even that..

Many thanks that's great news as we wanted to take food as we are arriving after the site is shut and have to wait in the car park outside over night so we will not need to look for some where to eat.
