sorry to go of the subject a little but Jaymac pleasse tell which chain is offering three courses for two people for £15.
the local place is part of Punch taverns who usually do 2 for £10 but they have a sign up now saying three courses for £15 for two but we haven't tried that yet http://www.pub-explorer.com/themedpubs/twoforten.htm

I've enjoyed reading the different views of people on this thread but thought I'd add my penneth (spelling?).

We are doing a Gite in france this year, it'll be our 3rd Gite holiday there in as many years. We absolutely love this type of holiday. Always in the Dordogne as it's probably about far south as we could face driving (thought about flying but cost does add up). For keeping costs down we do the same as a previous poster has mentioned, we go for lunch time specials (plat du jour) as the value is fantastic. On a side I love how bread and water are automatically brought to the table in France too and then how you can just sit, and sit and not feel you are intruding after you've ate.

The restaurants we choose are all from the rough guides, never had a bad experience following them.

Of course you can't eat out all the time but there's nothing better sitting next to the pool, local cheap plonk in hand with the mornings fresh baguette and local cheese watching the sun go down and watching the night sky... we love France, can you tell?

Yes Petrol is getting more expensive, yes it can be a hassle driving, yes there's toll roads but rather than being confined to a complex on all inclusive or fighting for sun lounges, being kept awake from noisy pubs listening to foul mouthed youth's everywhere you go, we experience, in our opinion a little bit of luxury.

I think that is the difference.

Our days of clubbing until dawn are over.

We love small quiet sites. Good food, wine, weather! This kind of holiday in a resort costs more than I am willing to spend this year.

I think camping abroad for the first time is a little daunting but i am trying to convince DH that its an adventure (although i wont do the first leg of the france drive!).

Slumming it in a flea pit isn't my idea of fun anymore. Glamping all the way
