Hi all,

We are hoping to go to S Ireland Aug 2005 (ferry prices permitting). Has anyone visited any of these sites, as we are having trouble deciding and reviews are a bit thin on the ground, (Beech Grove and Anchor are also possibilities).

We will be taking 10 year old twin girls, so need the site to have a reasonable play area, clean loos and a pub within walking distance are mum and dad's requirement.

Thanks in advance for your help

Lorna

I stayed at Donoghuges in August. I was in a tent and the main road runs right past it. Flemings seems to be a way off the road.  Donoghues didn't have too much of a childrens play area, a basketball ring and some seesaws and the like. the pub is a bit of a walk too.
Flemings would seem a better bet, it is also nearer the pub!
I enjoyed my stay at Donoghues, the campers kitchen was a Godsend, took a few beers in there and was watching the Olympics and Champions League Qualifiers whilst it was pouring outside.

I stayed at Flemings white bridge site 2 years ago and was very satisfied with it,handy for the town and all attractions, and the pub is about 10 minutes steady stroll, with music on certain nights plus good food if thats your thing,

one interesting thing I saw there was the bigest camper I have ever seen, just imagine this :- a forty foot German coach pulling a trailer nearly as big fitted out with 2ft x2ft sleeping compartments, must have slept 40 plus people, also had awning and canopy in which they had bench tables and chairs for eating and a huge camp kitchen, they dropped the trailer off and went off site seeing through the day on the coach, wish I had a photo!!!!

Regards Tone

Yes, I saw the same rig that year in River Valley campsite in Wicklow. Fully contained. We pitched about 100 yds from them and they had cooks etc their own food and beer. Tight wads!

Hi Lorna,

We stayed at Flemmings last July. The site is very big but split in to different parts and has a great feel to it. I can't remember a childrens play area but the facilities were very clean and well maintained. As with most sites in Ireland they have everything including day rooms for when it's raining, and also washing and drying facilities.

The camp it situated within walking distance of Kilarney town centre but a couple of pubs are nearer. While we were there we usually walked into town and then got a taxi back.

We also walked to the race course and back for a night meeting it was great. While your in Kilarney don't miss the national park. Have a great time, we booked our ferry crossing in January on Special offer advertised in the Sunday papers, keep a look out.

Thanks for all your replies,

We have deciced on Flemings White Bridge and emailed them a booking yesterday. Also booked our ferry via The Camping and Caravaning Club (it was worth the joining fee for the money we saved) and they were extremely helpful on the phone.

Roll on August!!!

Lorna
