Hello everyone,

We are booked on to this little camp site http://www.lebourdieu.net/ (south of Toulouse )for a week in the middle of August before going to Camping Valdarro on the Costa Brava for 10 days.

Has any one been to either site? We are using camping cheques for the total duration. We would be interested in people's reccomendations for places to visit around the Toulouse area.

Thanks

John

We haven't stayed at Le Bourdieu, but noticed it's a new Camping Cheque site this year, which actally accepts Camping Cheques all through the school holidays.  It looks a nice little site, at only 39 pitches - some of them sound huge (250m square).  We did use that road, passing Durfort, when we were on our way to Tarascon sur Ariege, from Toulouse, a few years ago.  We were too far out to suggest any places to visit, though, but I'd certainly suggest finding somewhere along the Canal du Midi for a walk - always interesting wherever you are, and generally plenty of places to have a drink or a meal.  Toulouse is now a 'city-break' destination, and friends highly recommended it - but we haven't stayed there.  The tourist information office will have lots of things to recommend, as probably will the campsite.

We haven't been to Valldaro either, but did stay at Camping International at Calonge, near Playa d'Aro some years ago, and had a winter-break in Playa d'Aro in 2009.  It's a busy little place in high season, but the beaches there are delightful.  There are sandy coves, with rocks, and a coastal pathway you can follow all the way around the resort and into the bays!  Lovely, with some shade to make it bearable in hot sun.  The sea is lovely there - just the right colour of blue.

From Playa you can do some trips into the bigger resorts - the drive along to Tossa de Mar is absolutely stunning (and the place a lot better than you might imagine, particularly the old part around the Castle), and then inland to Girona or Figueras (Dali Museum) and we also did Montserrat - which again is stunning.  To the north there are lots more small resorts such as Palafrugell, and similar

Sorry can't help with the sites, but thought this might be useful anyway!

Thanks again, Val! Great information as ever. We have got you to thank for pointing us in the direction of camping cheques this summer.

What is the climate like in the Toulouse area in August?

Thanks

John

Likely to be hot - at least I hope so as we will be down that way towards the end of August!  However, always be prepared and take something for cold weather, and something for wet - just in case!

We are not a million miles away from them and although so far this summer it has been a bit of a wash out in the Ariege, the good news is that the weather is set to improve next week.

Toulouse is a beautiful city with lots of great things to do and is about 1.30 from the campsite. There are also loads and loads of outdoor activities round and about, have a look at the Subteranean River at Foix and the Grottes of Niaux (you will need to book in advance).
