Coming from Channel Tunnel down to Vendee region we go through Rouen every year that we find busy- are there any easy routes through Rouen. Someone suggested to us following the route through the industrial estate - help appreciated - road numbers would be really useful
Thanks

These are instructions I used a few years ago. There were from someone on here. I found them very easy. Green is my highlights.

Rouen is big but very easy. Stay on the A28 down the hill and through the long tunnel;

get into the right hand lane (nearside in France) before or inside the tunnel, and HOLD THIS LANE straight ahead all the way to the River Bridge.

Still STAY IN YOUR LANE at the other end of the Bridge (there is another lane by now on your right, and one on your left), but slow right down because your lane loops off to the right VERY sharply down and under yourself, to put you on the D18E

through the industrial area of Sotteville(straight on at all lights and roundabouts) and out onto the Autoroute. Follow the signs for Paris, not Caen, after the last roundabout which means you want the LEFT lane.

Follow the Autoroute towards Paris for several miles; it's free at this point. Signs for Evreux will come up for Junction 19. Here you have another of Val's very small tolls to pay, and then it's all free dual carriageway to Evreux.

If it's useful, there's a filling station on the D18E out through Sotteville which sells at Supermarket prices; it's the first one you see. The next ones are full price!!

This is also the route I use, thanks to this site, and I found it useful the first time to follow it in google maps in satellite view.

If you are heading for the Vendee, would you not go via Le Mans,Tours, and Poitiers (A28/A10), rather than via Evreux and Orleans?
After of course using the same route through Rouen.

Is the following route okay for caravans or am I better using the D18E through the industrial estates to head south to Le Mans.

Instead of turning off onto the D18E immediately over the bridge I follow the Boulevard de d' Le Europe towards the N338 then on to the A13/A28.

My Garmin Mapsource suggests the D18E if I use HGV but the Blvd D'le Europe  N338 if I use delivery.

I would be grateful for advice, also how long does it take from Calais to Rouen towing at the speed limit 90Kph

thanks

I never realised driving through Rouen was a problem till I joined this forum. Or Lyon for that matter. Or the Nantes Rocade.  I just follow the road signs and they seem to be right.

You are absolutely right Berriow, just follow the signs - -I have never had a problem with either my car or motorhome. I think problems traversing Rouen is like one of those urban myths that do the rounds now and again.

Oh Rouen, Rouen, Rouen

Can you believe but last week we broke down just as we were going through the busy part with all the traffic lights (sotteville).  However after calling RP (they were brilliant - thank you Kamile) we were towed to a nearby garage.  Our aircon compressor had blown (literally) so they cut the belt and we travelled down to Spain with none!!  Not too bad as weather was not really hot (until Spain!!)  Btw Aire at Abbeville was really empty (18 July) and campsites on way down quiet too.

Anyway must dash - beach is calling us......

I am glad I am not the only one who has been wondering what the fuss has been about with Rouen.

We were booked into a hotel in Rouen once. We passed it several times before we found a way to approach it from the other side of the dual carriageway. It was tea time on a Friday and traffic waas horrendous. I think the "myth" of Rouen is probably based on trips like oursinto the centre of the town before the days of satnav.
