Just a quick post, in case it might be of help to anyone.
We have just got back from Soliel Plage and the weather was dreadful. Obviously this is just one of those things! However it might be helpful for people to know that the worst affected pitches were the first ones you come to on the River facing set of pitches.....the ones nearest the washblock end. the drains all over flowed. and the pitches nearest the drains flooded. the people on the next pitch to me were ankle deep in water. thankfully we were on a slight rise and missed the worst of it.
So, it might be best to avoid these particular pitches, if you can.

sounds terrible, we're off to the Dordogne in 11 days and just hoping the ground dries up and weather improves. Did you find things to do in the bad weather? Was the weather situation improving?

Wow - that sounds dreadful. I know they have spent a lot of money installing new drains during the winter - it looks like they will be spending some more soon [unless there is a 'guarantee'.]
Only good thing about the weather this July at SP was it was only 1/2 as wet as Biarritz
It's not the first time either. It happened to us a few years ago and we vowed never to go back. And never have.
And did you have the invasion of worms trying to escape drowning and coming up for air in, and under, and through, the awning groundsheet? Wormcasts everywhere.
And did you go to the "welcome evening" for newcomers ? We got a glass of lukewarm squash and sat patiently while they read the camp rules to us, delivered several adverts, and tried to sell excursions. Like a tacky package holiday we thought.
Many people like it here. For us it was the lowspot in 40 years touring. Soleil yuk!

We did find things to do, not helped by the fact that we were further limited by my poor 11 year old son having a broken arm!
We visited some Bastide towns, went to Sarlat, did a chateau and went to the aquarium, wemt to the Roq St Christophe, all of which were fun. But in the end the weather finished us off and we left two days early, heading south. where it still rained a bit but not so badly!
We have never been brave enough to actually stop in the Dordogne. It's very green! The west coast is our favourite destination for a long stay, and many times in the past have had neighbours turn up on the campsites around Royan, saying they had moved from the Dordogne to escape the rain. Of course, it rains all over France at some point, and sometimes it's very welcome. In summer, the Atlantic coast seems to get a build up of very hot and dry weather, followed by a short sharp ( often overnight) thunderstorm which clears the air and cools things down ( a bit)until it starts to build again.

We have been to the Dordogne twice before with no real problems. We've had the odd storm that cleared the air but this time it was torrential rain, day after day. At one point my tent was totally surrounded by water!
A plus is that I know that our decathlon pup ups, one big and one small, are *excellent* in the rain!
But it got tiresome after a while so we headed further south . the weather still wan't perfect but it was a lot better.
Haven't been to SP, but been to the Dordogne quite a few times. Have had very, very good, and also very bad, weather. We once hired a canoe on the river and whilst it was dry when we set off, by the time we got back, it was raining cats and dogs! But, nothing you can do about it, it's the luck of the draw, although in July you'd expect the weather to be good. I think it's a lovely area.
And I think we were there on thjat one day! We've been in the Dordogne for a week or more for the past three years and only in 2009 did we have good weather. Soleil plage is fabulous when the weather's good.
