can anyone recommend good campsites around the rouen area for kids we are travelling down to the dordogne  and need welcoming sites.

If you're only staying for one night, then there's a municipal site alongside the river just south of Rouen, at Pont de l'Arche.

Further south there's the Municipal site at St Remy sur Avre (Nonancourt).  Both would be fine for an overnight stay.

Or are you looking for something larger?  Unfortunately the Rouen area isn't well-endowed with 'destination' campsites as most people are on their way through it, rather than looking for a site with a lot of facilities suitable for a longer stay.

If it's your first time in France, then almost every site in France is welcoming for children - more than many so-called child-friendly sites here!  The municipal sites are often adjacent to the local sports field, and sometimes you can use facilities free of charge.  If there is a municipal pool then this sometimes come free, too, or at a reduced rate.

Sorry, can't really help with that question, certainly not in the Rouen area - but perhaps those with children might come up with some suggestions.

The campsite search on here (UKCS) is little help either.  There is a site in the Camping Cheque brochure, Camping de la Foret at Jumieges which is not that far from Rouen.

How long are you planning on staying?  What sort of facilities are you looking for?

Can recommend here http://www.ukcampsite.co.uk/sites/reviews.asp?revid=8111. for a few days. Good site and a lovely area but a little further than Rouen.

We tend to use it because it is fun to go over and back on the free ferries on the Seine There is also a good bus service into Rouen for only 2 euros

We liked La Foret as well. Unfortunately it was very wet when we were there (early October)  The Abbey is amazing and an easy walk from the site. I would quite like to go back at a better time of year to explore a bit more.

Camping le Bel Air, Louviers is just south of Rouen, not far from the N154, and we have stopped here twice on the way to the Dordogne/Lot. Was last there in 2007 so can't give a recent report but it's nicely laid out and has a small swimming pool.
