Take it you dont want a pitch for a night ?  Trouble you will find is that most gites & static vans are only let for a week at a time during August in several parts of France & England.  What about the cheap motels think they are called Formula 45 or something like that.

We once stayed at a small hotel in Calais - Hotel Windsor, 2 Rue du Commandant Bpnnigue, 62100 Calis - Tel: 21 34 59 40.  Only a 2* bit basic but proprietor spoke a leetle english (I swear he said "Good Moaning" when he brought in the coffee!   and there was secure off road parking.  It was a few years ago mind but we will probably give it a go this year on our way back.

We hope to get down to the Dordogne and Provence at the end of May/June.

Have a great holiday

Triss.

Try Hotel Formule 1, about 25 euro for a room which sleeps up to 3 in a double and over bunk single bed. Some of them have locked compound style of  car parks- I'm sure the Calais one does. If not, the motel is normally set centrally on the site, surrounded by the car park. After checking in, you can usually park under or very close to your own window, which is reassuring with a car full of precious camping gear. They have a good web-site and you can easily book online with a credit card. We used them several times when travelling with a trailer tent. They are normally situated on the periphery of a town in a business park, so away from the attention of bored ne're-do-wells.

We've spent many a night just off the peage searching the skyline for varying colours of neon sign.
We exited one last year in the late morning, each of us with a bag of some sort in one hand and a mug of coffee in the other. The cleaners waiting outside the door gave us a look of disaproval.

We stop at one of these motels on both our outward and inward journey each year and now have it down to a fine art.
We have one bag with the next days clothes etc and another with breakfast for the following morning, a kettle for drinks and flask for the days drinks. This way we don't have to unpack the trailer, everything is to hand.
Of course, we could spend €3 each and have their breakfast but we are skinflints

Thanks for the replies.  I am still thrawling the internet . Tried looking for Hotel Windsor on the internet .  Let you know if I find anything.  Trying to persude Hubby that we should get a very basic tent for overnight stay. The boys (aged 17) are going over early with two man tents for a week of freedom and we will ffollow with the home comforts
