Anyone just back or there now? How is the weather?
We head over at the weekend and forecast looks OK, not great. Having got everything down from loft this weekend it is clear our room for clothes will be limited (camping with 4 growing kids, and determined to get a couple of surfboards strapped on by the roofbox). Hopefully we can survive in shorts and T-shirts and squeeze a few fleeces and raincoats in just in case!
Edit - we are heading to La Tranche Sur Mer!
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Le Cottage Fleuri. They were very helpful when booking, let me choose what looks like a good pitch and hire fridge and gas BBQ so hope it is all OK. Have stayed in la Tranche before and like the area, especially the beaches.
Never explored much last time so maybe head to la Rochelle and Green Venice, plus Le Puy De Fou looks good.
Any recommendations Warbis? You seem to know that area well, is that where you are heading in 2 days?
just got back from st julien des landes in the vendee we arrived there on july 27th stayed for 9 nights had great weather exept for the last day we had a phew showers. We had 8 nights in charente maritime down near bordeux weather there was not so good hope you have a great holiday.
HI Northtim
Yes, have been here several times, weather has always been favourable.
Fab beaches for swim/boogie board etc
Not very scenic, but plenty to for days out.
La Rochelle is not far, but watch for traffic jams.
Puy du Fou is brilliant and i would love to go again.
Apremont Lake for swim and picnic followed by a row up the river.
Sallertine for a kayak trip.
Parc les Dunes at Bretignolles
Night market at Port Bourgeney
Castle at Talmont
If you are going to La Rochelle use the park and ride to avoid the traffic. We have done this the last two years, just follow the signs, about 6 euros for the full car.
Am off to the Vendee myself on Saturday...and you're right..it just suddenly creeps up on you!!. Hoping for a few day of sunshine, and also expecting a little rain. but I'll be relaxing and so wont really care.
I have to admit that I love the sound of rain on a tent, the noise is incredible and I find it immensely relaxing...as long as the tent doesn't leak and I get a bit of sun to sit out in too
------------- Half Empty or Half Full, it doesn't matter..it simply means there is room for more beer in your glass!!
got back from there last weekend weather was mixed for 2 weeks, probably only 3 really hot days in 2 weeks. Surf was rubbish, I only took my board out twice, I spoke to others who knew resort better than me and they said it had been the worst they had ever seen it. I have been there for 3 years and it hasalways been better. I took a windsurfer out at La Tranche instead of surfing.

Oh no, hope that has changed! Usually a good bit of Surf for at least part of every day. Forecast looking OK though I would prefer at least mid-20's.
We also had pretty grim weather for most of our week in St Julien last week. However, it was still quite warm & in the end we just went with the flow (quite literally) and ended up eating & drinking out quite a lot which was good!
P.S. we went to Bretignolle one day & the surf looked really good.
