France is closed on Sunday being a 98% Catholic nation they observe the Sabbath. On Monday many restuarants are closed to give those hard working chefs a break after the family Sundays.
The best thing to do before going to any country is to check out their culture..there was a time when we used to be closed on Sundays too.
Most of the big supermarkets are open on Sunday mornings to capture the people who nip in before mass.
As Tentz explained France is BIG country with the population spread out. If you go the Paris or any of the larger cities you'll find it crazy.
Lazzie - the beauty of camping is flexibility, we never book sites for that very reason, if the weather is poor you just go somewhere else. WEe tend to know ehere we're going for the first and last night but in between its where ever we fancy..love camping.

France is very quiet as it is the end of the camping season and,at the moment extremely hot. We are in Swiss Normandy in an uncomfortable 32 degrees of sunshine. All the facilities, all of the weather and all to ourselves.
Oh its my pet hate, on our last night before we sail getting someone next to us who's just set off on their adventure.
Believe it or not its 27 degrees in Yorkshire today and due to be even hotter by the end of the week....so much so that we are having BBQ at work on Friday evening !!
Enjoy your holiday.
Where is Swiss Normandy, never heard of it ?.
