Just returned from 2 weeks at L'Oree du Bois. Our 3rd year there now and we are just pondering if we should go back or try somewhere else next year. The bar/restaurant has been redeveloped this year, great pool, entertainment at night for the kids, fantastic pitch and mobile home, great beaches but......is it getting more like Butlins?? We have 2 kids aged 10 and 8 and we need a lively site but really not sure this is it as there were thousands of kids this year. I used to enjoy trauling the net looking for sites but not now. Anyone any suggestions for a site with rented accomodation in Aquatine region?

For a seaside holiday I wouldn't personally consider any other area of France - been to all the coasts but for me the area around La Palmyre is best.

Don't know about the site though - it's one we pass on the way to the beach - all singing and dancing is not for us - we stay at la Clé des Champs down the road - much cheaper but obviously not in the same league as l'Orée.

I really love the area to be honest and the beach at la palmyre is one of the best and cleanest I have ever seen. One part of me thinks...why waste a week of your hols sussing out places to go etc when I know the area......but the other part of me thinks....4th year at the same site..am i missing out on something better elsewhere?? Probably the dilemna a lot of people have when they have been somewhere they enjoy.I know that site (Cle des Champs) as I passed it loads but have never looked in on it.

Agree, agree, agree. That is a lovely area to go to. We've been buying waffles with whipped cream from the stall at La Palmyre on and off (not every year) for the last 30 years, and still go back now and then.

We stayed this time at Atlantique Foret - just along the road from L'Oree de Bois, but no pool, no entertainment, no statics, no marked pitches, just wide open space in shady woodland. We also drove past L'Oree de Bois, but can clearly see it's not for us either.

Another reason for us going to L'Oree is that we book a static through an English company called linky. They are really nice people who run it, nice vans and very reasonably priced too. I'm talking myself into booking again here aren't I??

Berriow when you say the stall at la Palmyre are you talking about the green and white one that looks stunning on the beachfront? if so we have eaten from there loads too

That might have been us in the bar...sorry! Must admit it is noisy up until 11.30 but they are quite strict about noise after that

We started to go to France in 2000 and we visited the same site twice, with a few years gap, when we introduced relatives to camping in France with their young children and we knew it was a good site. We've been to Italy twice to the same site in the last 3 years for the same reason. We've been to some lovely sites and areas, some better than others, but we've always managed to make a good holiday out of it. It's up to the individual of course, but there are many wonderful sites and places to see in France and Italy ( and other countries of course )

We have got a sort of rule that we never go back to the same campsite twice as it wont be the same as it was the first time!!!!
Maybe that is because i am still hunting for the perfect campsite!!!!
