Saga does(unless they have changed that in't last couple of yrs)but you need to be over 50 to use their insurance. Its worth pointing out that recovery insurance is not an automatic ticket home for your vehicle in event of a major breakdown. If a local garage offers to do repairs for(say)£5000 within a reasonable time frame then your van won't get trailered back to the UK.
Try German ADAC it is much cheaper and better cover is included. 98.70 Europs for you and wife/partner of same address for 1 year. Covers all of Europe including UK. Contact me if you need more info.
Don't forget to leave a review of the French and other European campsites you have visited!
Safeguard insurance offers breakdown cover for motorhomes up to 21 years old, I have had a quote of £269 for fully comp plus UK-Euro breakdown cover on my 16 year old Swift Kontiki 640. I will just check on what sort of Euro breakdown cover they offer.
------------- Do not camp under tree's. ..... one might fall on you!

Do they recover motorhomes of the weight of the op's vehicle? I'm struggling to find the t&c's on the ADAC website, do you have a link?

Even if your broken down vehicle is transported back to Uk you'll still have to pay to have it repaired when it arrives home, so why not have it repaired in Europe in the first place ?

You obviously are well heeled Berriow so let me explain how the other half live. If you own an old motorhome or campervan on a limited budget you do need to become something of a home mechanic.
You also will become well versed in obtaining cheap spare parts, you will come 'know of' people who will fit your breakers yard sourced spare parts cheaply at your home etc. Example a friend with an old VW camper had is alternator fail. His local garage offered to fit a new one for £300. I replaced the brushes for him in 10mins, cost £5. The alternator was ok for the following 3yrs he owned the van.
All clear now?
This is why one needs to be careful of breakdown ins. with an old vehicle. Example, an owner of a 70s VWs camper suffered a major engine failure in southern France. It had dropped a valve. A mechanic used to working on VW aircooled can fix this even at commercial rates for a few £100s but a good amateur mechanic can fix it for far less working on his own driveway. Not really a job that can be done at the roadside tho.
However the breakdown truck transported the broke down camper to the nearest VW main agents who offered to fit a new engine for around £5000. As far as the breakdown insurance were concerned the problem was solved & would not transport the van back to the UK.
In the end with the help of the VW 'community' both in the UK & France the owner found a VW aircooled friendly workshop who got him rolling for a few £100. It is a good example of how an old vehicle owner can come unstuck with continental breakdown cover.

I'd need to check for sure, but I thought that with the CC Mayday, if you breakdown while abroad you are covered for labour as part of the insurance and you just have to pay for the parts. I know it's still more expensive than sourcing the parts yourself etc., but it a bit better.
Saga covers call out & labour charges for roadside assistance & recovery, it don't cover garage labour or parts. I'd be suprised if any covered unlimited labour charges.
