I am thinking about camping on the Ile de Re , France next year. Can anyone recommend a good campsite? We will be taking our own large tent so pitch size is important. We have 2 teenagers but they are not into nightlife so that's not an issue. We like the beach and would like to cycle to places as much as possible.

Equally are there any campsites to avoid.

My friends love camping INterlude, it has got eurocamp and canvas pitches so don't know if that will put you off. They say it has direct beach access, great cycling, great weather and very family friendly.

Its a few years soince I've been but we camped near the beautiful town of St Martin some years ago...I seem to recall a site at the head of the island but it was ropey which of course doesn't matter a great dela if you are in motorhome. Il de Re is well worth a visit, not keen on the Vendee though, like Brittany tere are too many Brits.

We came back from Aquitaine on Sunday, we had a wonderful time at Le Tedey with a pitch next to the beach this year.

Very quiet this year probably due to the Euro exchange rate but it was a nicer atmosphere.

It's Bilbao, The Pyrenees and the lower part of the Atlantic coast which we have never explored.

I do love France under canvas

Garda..perfect for MTB, Kayak, SUP and fell running training.
Favourite areas: Provence, French Alps, Savigny (as a stop over for Southern France: Rhein valley as a stop over for Italy.   78

We camped at camping l'ocean near courade  with our kids when they were teenagers and really enjoyed it.  The pitch sizes were good.  It is also a great location being in the centre of the island so easy to cycle to anywhere.  It has a pool but little else in the way of entertainment which was fine by us.  Last year we stayed on La Tour de la Prise and again the pitches were a good size but just found the site a little unkempt and unfriendly staff etc.  This year we stayed on the municipal at Courade and found this excellent value, some pitches a good size  but just say what you need when booking.  It is basic without pool etc but on the beach and a short jaunt to supermarket and restaurants and village. We really liked this but not sure our kids would have enjoyed it as much as ocean if they had been there - fortunately it was only the two of us.  We love the island and are planning to go again as part of our holiday next year.  I have left reviews of all three sites.  Quite a few people have recently mentioned a site in Ars en Re but cannot remember the name.  A seach on this section of the form should throw it up.

Camping Interlude - good site, beach access, on the cycle routes, shops in town centre just 5 mins drive away.

Camping du Soleil & Camping E.S.S.I both Ars en Re and both with easy access to beach & town, big pitches available on both.

Also stayed at Interlude which again has direct access to beach and some big pitches, bigger site and a bit more going on for teenagers - Bois en Re nice town to cycle into.

Whereever you stay on the island you are never far from a cycle path, all the towns are interlinked by cycle paths.

Beautiful place to stay

Noone seems to have a bad word about the island , except that it gets mad busy at peak season. Were going at the end of August so hopefully slightly less madness. Looking forward to not driving and getting around by bike.
