Hi there,I was looking at the area around La Tranche sur Mer for next years hols, and was wondering has anyone been camping around that area, and what does it have to offer. We like to cycle as much as possible once we have set up tent,so any info regarding cycle lanes would be also very welcome.
Thanks in advance,
Michael.

we stayed at camping bel in La Tranche sur mer this july and loved it. This was our first french camping trip and we couldnt have hoped to have a better time. We hired bikes for a week and made good use of the ample cyle lanes which are up and down the coast. The resort has lots to do, with lovely beaches and plenty of shops restaurants and ice cream parlours.
Another vote for camping Bel and La Tranche Sur Mer.
you would not need to use your car once you were at this site. You could either walk, cycle or use the free bus that runs from the town to the surrounding area.
The cycling is brilliant, miles of cycle paths.
we visited La Tranche for the day a couple of weeks ago and were very impressed with the town. The beach was lovely and the ice creams just scrummy and the cheapest we had anywhere this year. Its definelty somewhere we'd go back to, I wasnt impressed with the rest of the Vendee but la Tranche was lovely. Wish we'd looked at Bel and Bay d'Anuis now as possibles for future holidays.
Can really see the attraction with the sites in La Tranche as not having to get in the car would be a huge bonus.

Thanks all, thats very positive! I know its a bit early to start looking at next years hols as we are only back from this years four weeks, but its the only way to stop the post holiday blues setting in !!!
Camping Le Baie D'aunis is very close to a huge carpark, which we have always said must be noisy.
Bel on the other hand is set a bit further back from it.
You can book direct with Bel but not until the New Year. They dont have their own website but e-mail address is campbel at wanadoo.fr can take a while to get a reply though.
Have you got children? If so Bel is a good site for them.
Stayed in Le Baie D'aunis a year or so ago during August. We were near the car park side of the site but there were no problems with noise. It was a very good campsite with the bonus being it was a few yards from the beach and a few minutes into the center of the town.
You may have a problem booking direct as they only start bookings from March.
We booked through Select sites and had no problem.

La Tranche itself is fine but the area all around is nothing special. We went to jard sur mer to a site highly recommended on here and were really disappointed in the town and area. Much of the area just seems a bit run down and not like anywhere else we have been in France - a big let down and we actually left early which is not like us! So many other areas of France which are much nicer. We went further down on the coast to the bassin of arcachon this year and really liked it - good cycling and lovely places to visit. But each to their own I guess... If you don't mind staying in the one town it will be fine.
lizzie,
Dont want to offend but I disagree with you.
I didnt think the area is run down and I would be very quick to notice something like that. Having said that we only were at the harbour in Jard Sur Mer and not in the town. We stayed on the outskirts of a small village called Avrille and it was lovely.
I would not rate the Vendee highly for scenery, but there are lots of lovely towns and villages and the beaches are superb, which is our main reason for going. Would love to go to the Dordogne, but you cant surf or skimboard there.
Have been to other area in France and dont think it is any worse.
