Due to work commitments Our main holiday next year will be the 1st 2 weeks in June so contemplating Bella Italia at Lake Garda or La Baume in Frejus. We have only just come back from Holland and France and I must admit to being a little dissapointed with the weather in Holland which was constant rain. I know you cant really predict what the weather will be like however if anyone has been to either area in early june could you advise what the weather was like? I have wanted to go to italy for ages so my first choice is Bella Italia however I also like it nice and warm so thats why we are considering Frejus. I take it there is an english school holiday at this time, Whitsun I think its called, so is it likely to be busy when we are there? Any advice appreciated. thanks.

Have done Frejus in mid July, "Camping les pins parasols" great when our Son was under 10, crazy busy, but a good base for visiting the Cote d Azur.

No doubt it will be much quieter in early June, before the main season kicks in.

Now our Son is grown up (26), just the two of us go camping in the South of France during July for our fortnights campings, and for the last 2 years, we have been to the Southern Ardeche, just about the same climate as Frejus, but without the hustle and bustle, and also a lot cheaper for day to day living.

Been to both areas at that time of year and been lucky enough to have excellent weather. Don't think you need worry about the temperature. Bella Italia is a very good site but does get very busy and you might want to think about booking especially if the German school holidays are at the same time.

We've been in Lake Garda in early June - and the weather was lovely for most of the time.  There were spectacular thunderstorms which made for some amazing lighning shows across the lake, but these were short-lived, and I think they are just 'Garda Weather'.

We always holiday during late May/early June, and we've had good weather at that time of year in many parts of France and  Spain.

It's interesting that Bella Italia is a Camping Cheques site (www.campingcheque.co.uk), (£13.95 per night, pitch, two adults, equipment and electricity) and this year took them up to the 9th June, and then again from the 26th June to 30th June. This is a really good saving, against their 'normal' rate for two adults of €36.40/€41.00 per night on those dates!  However it does appear that they have a busy period during the middle two weeks of June, so perhaps best to book, even if you're going to use Camping Cheques for part of that period.

It looks as though you are considering 2 totally different holidays. Frejus, a beach type holiday with a more busy area and Lake Garda the lakes and mountains of Italy. We have been to Frejus twice in early June and although not Garda we have been to Lake Maggiore same time of year.

Weather wise could be similar but you may have more problems in Lake Garda because of the mountains. When we went to Maggiore the weather had been fairly awful but when we arrived we had glorious weather. Both times in Frejus we had excellent weather in early June. I suspect Lake Garda will be the quieter of the 2 even if the site is busy. Frejus is busy at that time of the year but not unduly so.

Should you choose Frejus the beach parking along that part of the coast can be expensive but we were given an excellent tip while we were there by the people in the next pitch. You will see plenty of signs for "Base Nature" in Frejus which is where the French go. Huge free parking and right next to the beach. Also a short walk into the Marina at Frejus so plenty to look at.

Also recommended is the ferry from St Raphael to St Tropez (see how the very rich live). Only place we have seen bouncers in clothes shops - Dior, Balenciaga, Vuiton etc. And if you really want to see how the "very" rich live try the harbour at Antibes which is the deepest water on that part of the med and the only one capable of taking the super yachts. Included a couple of photos. First is coming into St Tropez from the ferry from St Raphael and then Antibes.

Thanks for the pics. Cant believe the size of that yacht in the 2nd pic! we are going to fly this time and stay with Keycamp in a mobile home. the costs involved in driving that distance with fuel and tolls would be more expensive than flying (we put over £600 in fuel alone on our recent jaunt to Holland and France) so we will fly either to Nice or Verona depending where we choose. Already with most operators there is very little availability for the first 2 weeks in June and I think this is due to the half term holiday. I have always wanted to go to both destinations but I need to think of what would amuse my 4 yr old daughter. Going to Monaco, St Tropez & Cannes would be high on my agenda but I doubt she would appreciate it hence why I am probably leaning more towards Lake Garda so she can go to Gardaland and the waterpark etc. Hubby thinks im mad to b thinking of next year when we only got back from france 2 weeks ago but I love all the planning ahead!

Hi MrsG26,

Hadn't realised you had a young daughter but there is plenty to keep young children occupied whichever destination you choose. I start planning ahead fairly early but you beat me by a mile. It is part of the fun though.

For your info (and anybody else whos interested) the yacht "Octopus" in the second pic is owned by Paul Allen who is a co-founder with Bill Gates of Microsoft. It has 2 helicoptors and 2 submarines and a swimming pool and believe it or not a basketball court and 7 other boats inside it.

Have a great time wherever you go!

John

we went to Lake Garda last yr for may half term ,arrived to rain bouncing off the ground ! then an hour later came out gorgeously sunny and remained that way for the rest of our holiday really

bit foggy / misty / rainy  in the Malcesine area ( went there for a wedding) , but lovely in the Cisano area where we were staying for the remainder of the time

My niece was 4 when we went and she found the lakeside walks tough going in that heat,so would recommend a buggy for your daughtr ( even if she wouldnt go near one at home lol !)

We were at Les Pecheurs very close to Roquebrunne and not far from Frejus. Walking distance into beautiful little town. About 20 minutes from coast. Very relaxed site in June. See my review.
