Hi, we are travelling to the South of France in a Motorhome in October and wondered if anyone could recommend a nice Camping site with a lake for swimming.  No children so not to bothered about lots of entertainment etc,. We will probably stop a few days in the Avignon region and then on to Cote D'Azur.  All reccomdations gratefully received.

Sites in France generally have quite a short season - but take a look at the ACSI Card website (www.campingcard.com)  - if you select 'Holiday Period' under the search criteria and put in the 30th and 31st October in the 'Dates' then you'll find all sites which are still open at that time.  You can then select on the map those in areas you want to visit.

In the South of France at the moment but most sites closed up at the end of September. The one we are on along with most of the rest close on the 14 October which is when we take the ferry home.

There will be a few sites open but it gets cooler by the week, if you have the time I would consider doing a few more miles down to Spain.

Hi Mary, and welcome to UKCS. Avignon is one of our favourite cities in France, and has a couple of campsites on an island in the river. Not sure when they close. Would river swimming do instead of the lake?

The site Ile du Papes, on the island at Avignon is open in October, and takes Camping Cheques (www.campingcheque.co.uk).  There are fifty Camping Cheques sites open until the end of October in France - several in Provence area.  Just search under dates for 29th October to 31st October, and then you'll get a list of sites.

From the Camping Cheques website: Campasun Parc Mogador at Sanary sur Mer, Camping de la Brise in the Camargue, Camping Manjastre near Bormes les Mimosas, Camping Saint Gabrielle in the Alpilles near Beaucaire, Kawan Village Cros du Mouton at Cavalaire (lovely views) and La Pinede near Grimaude.

Not many near a lake, but plenty near to beaches - sea should still we warm, we've been in the sea in Collioure on the 11th November!

This place may be open till mid November. Haven't stayed there but had a walk round a couple of years ago (in mid October) and it seemed OK. Short walk into Vaison - very nice town with large weekly market ( not seasonal) Orange, Avignon within easy reach and in the middle of Cotes du Rhone country. Isle sur la Sorge is worth a visit on antiques market days.
We've stayed in the area several times but always out of season and in a gite.

I agree with jaiash, nice area. Carpe Diem is good, I have put a review on here. They have an indoor pool if you want it.
