Hello all, Can anyone tell me if they take their dog(s) to Camping Las Dunas, Spain and if so do you take them onto the beach.

The site has informed me that it’s a public beach and although dogs aren’t supposed to be on the beach they know that owners do take their pet on. At least we know she’s safe and not over heating back on the pitch or barking and upsetting other campers. Can’t speak for other dog owners but ours spends all day under our sun loungers on her lead and has never been a nuisance to anyone. I don’t want to start a debate from the anti dog brigade on here please.

Posted this in various forums on this site in the hope that i get a positive reply. Thanks

Hi

I have visited Las Dunas many times, and I must say I have never seen a dog on the beach. The best person to ask is the UK agent who spends at least a month there each year. If my memory is correct his name is Derek and he is a CC Lincinshire Centre member and extreemy helpful. There is usually an ad in each CC magazine.

Thanks for the info Steve.

The site just down the beach (L' Amfora) has a home page picture on its website of a family going to the beach with a dog in tow.

The last site we went to there is an area of the beach where dogs are aloud so i was hoping Las Dunas was the same

Agree with Stu

We were on the beach at L'amfora in August and we did see dogs on the beach, not sure if the laws are similar to France where owners are required to carry the paper work for the dog they have showing that all the required injections are upto date. We found this out in 2009 when my youngest son did the biggest no no and tried to pick HIS ball up next to a dog which decided that the ball was his and bit my son on the leg

Technically dogs are not allowed on the beach, however, many campers do take their dogs onto the beach. We have been going to Aquarius for many years (just down the beach from Las Dunas). Many people with dogs tend to settle a little further up the beach, so they are not directly opposite the campsite.

I think it would be fine to take dogs onto the beach, the only risk would be if a child is bitten by a dog, there is a small chance that the autorities could clamp down

Hi, Just a warning! it is against the law in Spain to take dogs onto beaches and it was obviously done for a number of reasons, one is dogs become overheated in the extreme heat and can become unreliable and of course another one is dog dirt, how many owners would pick up the dirt, just cover it over would be my guess and i have every sympathy with Boyceib, why should you be the one to have to take precautions against dogs. I have a place in Spain just by the beach and have seen many people with dogs being spoken to by the police and finally - how do you know the dog is from the UK and has all the injections, can't see the East Europeans bothering with rules and regs, can you ?

Of course i cant speak for every dog owner but the last 3 years we have taken our Westie on the beach in France and sat in an area where other dog owners sit and like those people we cleared up on the odd occasion she did mess (most owner walk the dog early in the day before going on the beach so toilet duties are performed then)
We also would rather have her with us because of the very reason of over heating. At least we know she is Ok and not burning up or causing a nuisance back at the pitch.
She is our first dog and prior to that i was as anti dog-mess as anyone else who doesn't own a dog! and now we have one i am even more disgusted at the mess some owner leave behind! Its just not necessary ANYWHERE period....
As for dogs being loose and possibly attacking children, well thats poor management also.
Our Westie is a member of the family and on our summer holiday she cost's us an average of £300 just to travel & stay on a site. We even cross by the tunnel now so that she's not left in the bowels of the ferry alone!
I fully understand the views of non dog owners but i am certain that dog owners will agree with what i have put here.
