Just a word of caution - don't send 'Signed for' mail to a French campsite - they have to visit the local main sorting office to pick up any mail which needs to be signed for!

When you reserve a pitch you receive a confirmation email where it says bank transfer or cheque within 2 weeks. I must admit the campiste was very helpful and their English is superb and they were very prompt in the email responses.

I have ended up paying the deposit using the globalwebpay which I found very user friendly. I did email their support a couple of times which again I found very helpful and reassuring. I have received 3 emails from them confiming the transfer and in theory an email goes to the campsite. Hopefully in a few days the campsite will contact me to confirm the deposit. Very easy to use and certainly cheaper than my bank. I will update on progress!

Val - not necessarily. If the owners live on site, they'll receive the paperwork to sign at their gates, as we do. Le facteur is duty bound to contact the signee first, if no response, then off to the local sorting office which is always the nearest (commune) bureau de poste.

We do this all the time.

Hi Floydfan - yes, it obviously wouldn't apply if the owners or reception staff were on site all the time - but many sites only have a 'skeleton' staff over the winter.  I know our friends who owned a campsite only popped in to pick up mail a couple of  times a week (they didn't live on site). 

Also our elderly friend told us that she would have to go to the local sorting office in Olonzac to pick up our 'Signed For' passports - and that the postman would not deliver them - when we had them posted down to her two or three years ago when we were allowed into France without them!
