When our children were younger we went to Camping Du Letty in Benodet for a number of consecutive years - the kids didn't want to go anywhere else!! When the children "flew the nest" we tried other destinations for our Summer hols for a number of years. Last year we thought we would try out Du Letty again after a break of 8 years. We really enjoyed returning to Du Letty in 2011, especially as they had just opened their superb new water park and so we decided to return next summer.

We had hoped to get a pitch right on the beach but for 2012 Du Letty have changed their terms making the pitches on the edge of the beach "Premium" pitches at Premium prices, ie, twice the cost of the standard pitches. In addition they now require a non-refundable 30% deposit and 12€ booking fee to secure a booking.

We were, however, still keen to return, and after an exchange of emails, have managed to book a pitch in "Les Mouettes", Bay 7, which is one of the bays leading down to the beach, for 28 days from late July to late August. Du Letty now have an online booking system which accepts credit cards, so making the booking and paying the deposit and booking fee relatively easy. The total cost of our stay is 1055,20€, which at current exchange rates (£0.86/€) works out at £32.41/nt. This isn't too bad for a pitch near the beach on this lovely site.

The Du Letty website is very good giving online estimates if you input the details of your proposed stay but I did find a few errors. Christine Guyader-Benois, one of the bosses, advised me that they are still sorting out a few minor problems with their online booking system.

We've gone from not booking at all to booking 8 months in advance!!!??

We must be getting old!!! We're VERY excited about our holiday - something to keep us warm thinking about it on those cold winter nights!!!

Tim

That sounds lovely Tim, I'm very jealous. Will you miss the fun of travelling to new places though?

Hi 4humps1

SORRY! I've forgotten your names!!! Shame on me when you were so kind in giving us your spare "Mirror" vouchers.

Are you going back to Du Letty? We didn't actually PICK that pitch. We were keen to return and with a pitch on the beach side and so we asked boss Christine before we left. She said that the bookings would be up on their website in October.

She did NOT mention the new conditions of a 30% deposit and 12€ booking fee nor them making the pitches right next to the beach premium pitches.

Anyway we watched their website and as soon as they put up their tariffs, but before the online booking system was up and running I contacted her again by email with our dates and asking about a standard pitch in the beachside bays. Christine offered us the pitch in Les Mouettes 7 although we had asked about the lower number Les Mouettes, ie, nearer to the reception/pool end. Still as you say that is a good pitch - we have been allocated the second pitch in on the right, looking towards the sea.

We've not tended to book anywhere on our previous Continental hols let alone book and pay a deposit 8 months in advance. We must be getting old. LOL!!

I'll be keeping my eyes open for "Mirror" offers but like you if I buy it I'll be "smuggling" it out in my bag!! LOL

Are you returning to Du Letty in 2012?

Best wishes
Tim

That sure does look a nice campsite, but to far North for us, 28 days is outstanding, and I would love to be able to get away for that long.

Just a mere 21 days for us next July, and 4 of those days are for travelling.

Why do you say too far north Francais?

We had lovely weather at Du Letty last year - just a few dull and rainy days and the rest hot and sunny. Sunny most days by lunchtime and since 2011 a lovely INDOOR heated pool for the duller days.

You should give Du Letty a try.

We just love the Mediterranean climate, and those +40Deg temps, that you get in July, as for Sunshine, I have been going since 1962!, and we have never had rain, and that's the honest truth.

I have done Northern France in the past, during August, but the weather for us was not good.

Also my take is, if you have gone to the trouble of crossing the channel, you might as well head as far South as you can, even if it does take a couple of days, the journey then becomes part of the holiday.

I can't put my finger on it, but once we pass Lyon, on our way South, it's as though someone has flicked a switch, and the climate is transformed, to an almost tropical feeling.

Like all things it's each to thier own, and I am sure that there are plenty of folk who are the oppasit to us, and prefer Northern France.

Lol Tim hiding the mirror. It was Savanne on here that very kindly posted that the mirror vouchers included Du Letty   .I had missed quite a few days when I started collecting them wish I hadn't because I could have given you more .
This time last year we booked and like you we had never booked so early but as you said its nice to have something to look forward to over the winter .We are not sure if we are going next year as we try not to go back to the same place .The problem is we loved it so much it's quite hard not to go back..........
It's not just the campsite it's the area isn't it .We will never forget the amazing firework display or the langoustine festival and our mad fishing boat ride ( health and safety eat your heart out ) Or the BBQs on the beach or wizzing in with tide on the body boards .Or our lovely French neighbours giving us shell fish they had just caught for our tea (actually it was crabs but I couldn't put our neighbours gave us crabs lol )
When we chatted we all thought there would be changes once they put that pool in !!! Mind you will they still be charging for the showers now they have put their prices up I wonder .
As we said it was your review that we went there in the first place so many many thanks once again for that . Christine should give you a bottle of wine or six or even a free holiday because I think we weren't the only ones (remember what you promised Cary lol )

...ps i don't think we gave you are names as we introduced ourselves as 4 humps
