Hi, we are new to this site and hope someone could advise us! We are about to book a couple of weeks camping 35k from montpellier next august. Does anyone have any suggestions for an overnight stop over on the way own and way back? Ideally we would like to rent accomodation instead of pitch a tent, but have our trailer and bikes which need to be kept safe. Any suggestions?
Thanks in anticipation of some help.....

You will find that there are normally several of the chain B&Bs in most towns in France. They normally have gated compounds and there are other users of this website who have experience of using them with out any problems. We've used the Campanile brand before.
You should be able to get to Beaune or Challon Sur Soane as a 'half way' point. You could try using google maps to search what is available near where you want to stop.
We pitch up overnight and feel a lot happier doing this as we feel our gear is safer on a camp site but its all down to personal preference.

Hi thanks very much for your replies - I will have a good look. We have a pop up 4 man tent which we used last year as our overnight stop: thunder, lightening and two grumpy young children made for an awful night and bad second days driving, but agree somehow you feel safer when your kit is next to your tent. Thanks again.

Forgot to mention when posting last night that there is an alternative route to get to Montpellier.
From Calais via Beaune and Lyon takes you down the flatter A5, A6, A7 which is a mostly chargeable auto route.
An alternative is via Rouen, Chartres, Orleans and Clermont Ferrand which takes you over the Massif Central and the Norman Foster bridge at Millau and this route is mostly toll-free auto route, but is hilly in places.

Me and the wife stayed at a B&B hotel and another hotel on the way back from Millau in August. Both of the hotels had gated and locked car parks.I left my motorcycle and camping trailer loaded on both occasions and even left the tent strapped to the back of the bike, never had any issues at all.

Like Valk Rider, we;ve stayed in B&B Hotels and the Hotel Arena in CF that I mentioned above. All of these had secure parking that was locked about 9pm and then was only accessible with the PIN that they give you on arrival. We left the car and folding camper overnight and it all felt secure. An alternative is to do a search on Hotes de Chambres as these will be very secure, reasonably priced and very comfortable.

situated roughly halfway between Vierzon and Clermont Ferrand, about 10 minutes from the Autoroute.
Its a smallholding in open countryside about 1km from the small village of Morlac. Very remote so should be no security problems. Dominique and Marie-Christine who run the business speak good English and are two of the nicest people you can ever meet. When we stayed there in June it cost 90€ per night for the two of us b & b and an excellent very French evening meal, complete with a very good local wine. There were also aperitifs with the host and hostess outside in the grounds before the meal.
