Have seen the odd post asking about employment as wardens on french campsites so thought I would post info from an email I had today. Puy Rond, an english owned campsite in the Charent/ Vendee border is looking for help from March to September or part thereof next year. Couples with their own outfit who can work any part of those months should email their names, address, phone number, ages, type of outfit ie motorhome or caravan and any skills they might bring to the job.

Free pitch for cleaning the bogs? Gives the campers summat to do & saves the cost of employing a local.

Just one thing that should be mentioned, I think, Puy Rond was advertised for sale on here recently - both at the beginning of a thread in 2007 - Finding a campsite for sale, and again in the same thread in May 2011.

I would imagine that if the owners are still looking to sell, and were to sell up then any offer of employment might be conditional, and down to the new owners.

I don't think it will be an 'offer of employment'. The usual form is that you get a free pitch, not necessarily in a place you would choose & you clean the bogs & similar tasks. Obviously you need to ensure it does not become 'slave labour' but I suppose for just a couple of hrs work a day its a good way of getting 'free' camping if you are retired & on a limited budget.

Its a good deal for the site owner as well because employing a local to do the work will be expensive.

I suppose I didn't mean actual 'employment' - but I would think that any offer of a free pitch, etc., would still depend on the new owners.

In the Free Adverts section of this website,  there are a number of 'Job' offers - one of which is Puy Rond.  In the spring/summer this year there were many more French campsites advertising - and perhaps next year will have similar offers.  Some sites offered a free pitch in return for 'light' duties, some specified what was actually involved and some offered a small remuneration as well, so anyone looking for 'employment' might find it useful to look in the Free Ads.

I keep my eye on them, just in case the ideal opportunity crops up!

Hey, Carol - that's a bit below the belt.   No one is 'slating' anything - OR certainly I didn't mean to.  Given that only Tentz and I have replied, it's a bit much being called a Know it All, too!  I just wanted to be helpful and point out the possible snags, not be snide about your posting at all.

Sorry if I got your back up - it was absolutely not intentional.

Rather than responding to this in kind I hope the moderators will remove this & other irrelevant posts.

The gist of the responses are valid despite the one dimensional view of the op. It is worth pointing that any 'offers of employment' of this nature are usually on the basis I have described & can be of benefit to both camper & campsite owner.

Duties need to be agreed beforehand & to 'pay' for a pitch should not need much more that 2hrs work a day. Obviously one can hitch up & leave should it turn out to be not what was expected.

It is unlikely that a small privately owned campsite will actually offer paid employment.

Carol

I think your response to two of the most helpful contributers on this website was misplaced, and should be retracted.  Your original post was well intended and I'm quite sure the replies were equally well intended and did not merit rebuke.  I think if you re-read the posts you will come to agree.

As someone who has done this sort of work at a campsite about 15 miles from Puy Rond for a few years, we had a fabulous time and a free pitch with electric for a couple of hours work every day(with a day off).  We are retired and it was a way for us to enjoy summer in France for no cost and a lot of pleasure.

Thank you for posting this and anyone with free time should seriously consider it.

Surely Carol was just passing on some information that she thought would be of interest to someone. Surely anyone interested in such an offer would investigate what was required and make a decision accordingly? As Marz has said it can be an enjoyable experience and often people wanting to spend a summer in France in exchange for a few hours work don't always know where to start.

I agree, but I think we were only adding information which may help people to do just that!  However to be called 'the usual UKCS know it alls' who 'really need to get a life outside of UKCS', as a result of contributing to a thread, is very very wounding, and somewhat of a personal attack - particularly as I was one of only two people to have replied at that time.

Water off a duck's back to me, let the mods decide what stays & what goes. Often they see these type of threads as thinly veiled free adverts.
