Topic: Campsites Near Santander Ferry, Spain

Can anyone recommend a good campsite near to the Santander Ferry? We stayed at the ACSI site (Somo Parque) last March and it was very poor! The showers did not work - due to boiler failure.

All we want is somewhere safe where we can stay overnight in March 2012 - we do not want to park on the quay! Has anyone stayed at Camping Virgen Del Mar? It is shown on Google - however I can see no signs of a site on the maps.

Can't find it either at the point indicated, though there appears to be a site nearer to the beach.

Have you looked at Cabo Mayor, not listed on here but shown on the Google map and which does have its own website?

Hi Just had a look at Cabo Mayor and although it looks good it does not appear to be open in March. The website at present only has 2011 openings!

Whats wrong with virgen del mar? It opens 1st February.

I cannot find Viren Del Mar - do you have co-ordinates please. Looking on Google actual location given doesn't show camp site. Your help would be appreciated. Have you stayed there?

Thankls for reply - cannot find your red link! I have seen reviews for campsite on Tripadvisor and 10 out of 13 rate the site as awful. I think we will give this one a miss.

Could be worth sending them an email, or if there's no-one on site, the Tourist Information Centre might have details, or other suggestions?

Thanks Bob, I will try to contact the campsite - they may be willing to take in two caravans for one night if we use our own facilties!

Tried virgin del mar in september 2010 its not very good,trying cabo mayor in 2011.

Hi Chrissy, Virgen del mar doesn't have very good feedback on trip advisor. I am in the throws of contacting Cabo Mayor as we want to use them when we return from Spain next March - they are not normally open that early in the season. If I have any news I will let you know. I have contacted the Santander Tourist Office but have not had a reply to date.

We stayed at Santillana del Mar a few years ago before the Santander ferry, It's about 20 miles away along the coast.

Was a Camping Cheque site and maybe still is and is open all year.

It was a bit wet when we went but we parked on the site roads
