HI EVERYONE      anyone know anything about touring New Zealand by motorhome.

We are thinking of going there for 4 or 5 weeks mid August/September.  Have looked at several websites for hirers and can see that is their low season so cost is not an issue. Have to go then as we need to stick to university holidays.

Main worries are............

Weather.........average max temp at that time for North Island given as 16C......anyone been there in their Spring......what is it really like?

Campsites........Will they be open then.....What are the facilities like.....are disabled showers widely available?         Bought our present van specifically for the big end bathroom with separate shower , but have also used disabled facilities on CC sites. Must be separate facilities, not just a cubicle with extra handles etc.       None of the motorhomes shown seem to have decent sized bathrooms.

Any info you can give me will be much appreciated.

Jennifer.

I'm sure it dont cost much to phone New Zealand as their daytime would be our nighttime cheap rate---jus phone the motorhome hirers direct-about yore requirements--I'm sure they would give you info on campsites as well---

Can't help with your specific questions Jennifer but how I envy you! It's one of our ambitions to do NZ in M/H before we are tooold to enjoy it. Will have to wait till we are both retired (a couple of years) to make the journey worthwhile. Good luick with your enquiries-as Billy says it'll be worth a couple of phone calls

Hi Jennifer,

I live in NZ, and prior to moving here, my family and I came here on holiday and used Maui motor homes. It was a 6 berth, and the bathroom, was very small!! Campground facilities are excellent, and of a far higher standard than in the UK, and also Europe.  I am unsure of disabled facilities. Lonely Planet have a section for disabled travellers. Try;

http://www.nzdrc.govt.nz

Beware the weather can be far colder than 16 deg in the winter. It is generally milder on the coasts, but can be freezing inland!! As a Rotorua resident I can vouch for this!!

Good Luck and have a great holiday!
