Hi,

We are looking to take our caravan to France for the very first time24

Hubby and son love to surf so we will be staying on the west coast.

Have found a site which seems quite reasonable-  Camping Parc de la Cote Sauvage in La Palmyre, but can't seem to find any reviews for it. Has anyone been and can recommend? or of course recommend any other great campsites with a good surfing beach- not really wanting to travel down to Biarritz etc

Thanks very muchly

Nicky

Hi Nicky

I couldn't find any reviews either, other than on other websites. Hubby was taken with it, and wanted a campsite with direct access to the beach and a decent swimming pool with slides, so we've gone ahead and booked it.

I have to say it was much more reasonable than most in that area - some were coming in at 1000 euros plus! (we're going from 4th august for 2 weeks)

Hope there are some good reviews!!!

Lelly x

There are some reviews on Zoover (Dutch website) but in English - some fine, some less than complimentary - but that's generally the way.  Some campsites suit one person, some another - which can only be a good thing otherwise we'd all be trying to get pitches on the same sites!

Have a look at camping atlantique which is now in the Eurocamp Ind brochure, gives you some more information.

We had 4 or 5 holidays there in the late 80's to mid-90's. It is very popular, and one we like to revisit just for a look-see even now.

I don't think you can rely on our impression, but back then it was well run, toilets cleaned several times a day by students, nice take -away, shop and pool.  The sandy pitches were set fairly randomly amongst the trees and sand dunes, so no straight lines and regimentation. Lots of crickets and glow-worms in the trees at night. You could not book, but if you turned up and it was full, they had an overflow area where you could wait for the departers to leave the next morning and move on to the one you chose. We only needed that once.

Best of all was the walk to the beach, past all those trying to park up for the day with a feeling of superiority! However, there is plenty of new beach parking created in the area now, as well as a cycle path all the way to La Palmyre and north past the Atlantic beaches. You can also walk to the lighthouse, and walk up the many stairs for a fantastic view over the countryside.

The beach is well lifeguarded during the day, but the sea needs to be respected, someone drowned there one evening when we were there.

We had a look around this site whilst staying in the area - we thought the pitches were a bit crammed in, even if randomly placed in the trees. If you don't mind that everything else looked OK. Good access to the cycle path, beach.

Hi,

Even though we had a fabulous sunny 2 weeks in Cornwall I'm just bumping this post as still interested to know if anyone visited this site over the summer.

Thanks

Nicky

Hi Sushisu

Two years ago we stayed at Sequoia Parc just a few miles up the coast from Parc de la Cote Sauvage. It is an excellent site with a great pool complex your son will love and its a short drive to the beaches along the Cote Sauvage or on the Ile d'Oleron, many of which have great surf.

We are looking to go back to this area of France this year and are debating weather to go back to Sequoia Park or try Parc de la Cote Sauvage. I like the idea of being able to walk to the beach but the pitch sizes worries me a little as they seem to vary in size and I have a 7m van.   I think though I will give the Cote de la Sauvage a go unless I find any bad review or advice on here as I have always heard good things about Yelloh Village so I doubt it will be a bad site. Will be there from the 09/08/2013 - 21/08/2013 so I'll look out for Lelly.

Ian

Nicky. Although we know the area very well I can't help you with the site you mention, but if you are prepared to stay a couple of miles inland I can recommend another site www.camping-lapalombiere.com  It's family owned and managed, very clean, and spacious. But it means driving to the forest edge and then walking through the pine trees to the surfing beaches.

Can add to those who stayed there in the late 80s/early 90s (as a child) and have great memories of the site! Plenty of cul-de-sacs and nicely shaded.

Revisited it when I was working in the area a few years back and it did look a bit tired then, but can imagine Yelloh have done some work on it as their sites are usually pretty good. The best feature was definitely its proximity to the beach and the lighthouse which is a must visit!

Actually just found this link from 2012:

I have just been googling this, i went for a snoop around here two years ago and was well impressed with its location. I would happily have stayed there.
