We've been looking at the much fabled la garangeoire site tonight and i noticed they do premium pitches. This caught my eye straight away as it would save us ALOT of space in the car if we didn't need to take the fridge, seating and BBQ. Now my question is, are these types of pitches common in France as they are now top of our list? I have had a quick search but i can't find any other with the same spec as La G premium pitches...
I really like the look of La G and it seems to be perfect for us seeing as we have small kids, also not too far from the channel ports.
We had been on the look out for a FC to use at home and abroad, but i think this is now on the back burner as we're going to change the car first. Tax renewal in today and its £260 for the year, couple this with less than 30Mpg its time to get something more in tune to long distance touring that won't bankrupt us!

You don't always get seating, but often you can hire a fridge, and/or a barbecue from lots of sites - which would save you some room. I think seating is unusual, though I have seen it on some sites.
most Castel sites offer premium pitches with the same or similar stuff to La G. Two sites we've stayed on (both Castel) had the premium pitches and they came with a little store at the back of the pitch where all the kit is. We definetly saw table and chairs and two sunloungers. If you do a search on here under La Garangeoire then theres a thread with pics of a premium pitch and a great review.
We are going to La G for 12 nights this August, will be our first time, like you say its an easy drive from the ferry ports and it offers everything to amuse our soon to be 13 yr old DD meaning we can relax too. We stayed at the nearby Pin Parasol last August for a few nights but prefered La G as we went and had a good nosey around. I believe they only have a couple of tent premium pitches and a couple for caravans (dont know what the difference is!).
La G is fully booked for alot of the summer hols, when were you thinking of going?

Thanks guys, i will have a look at castels sites to see if any others take our fancy. Savanne1, the main summer dates we wanted are already fully booked for La G, so my wife took that as a chance to book Zakynthos for a fortnight but we may have a chance to escape reality for a week in late june if all goes to plan..
Next summer hopefully we will have a F.C to take with us for a few weeks in the sunshine - and no package holiday in sight if i plan things better
We're at the Castels site DDF June/July, and have booked a premium pitch. It's described as comprising:
Location "PREMIUM"
For added comfort, we offer the location "Castel-Premium" of over 200 square meters on which you will have access to a garden shed with electricity, two sun beds, refrigerator, barbecue, garden furniture and one hour of free internet per day.
We stayed (myself, wife and 3 kids) at La Garangeoire two years in a row 2010 and 2011. Both times we used Premium Pitches and I can say that they were great. Plenty of space on pitch plus we got fridge (with storage space), Table & Chairs (6), and two sun-loungers. The pitch was fully services.
Was expensive but hassle free.
Whilst we are unlikely to visit La Garangeoire in 2012, I would highly recommend it! Enjoy!!
Just a mention that La Grangeoire is a Camping Cheque site, from 07/04/2012 to 30/06/2012 and then again from 30/08/2012 to closing date. Their normal site rates for these periods vary from 17.50 euros to 21.50 euros.
With the new improved euro rate it may pay to buy Camping Cheques through the French website - at 15 euros you could save almost £1 per Camping Cheque!

It would be great if you guys could leave some feedback of how good the premium pitches are this year on various sites, would give the likes of me more information on what premium pitches/sites are worth a visit..
Of course. I was pondering using the free wifi allowance for a daily blog type a thing but SWMBO says we're on holiday not buggering around with computers
I will though post a review and pics when we're back.
Roll on June.
