Hi folks, only been to France once before, just been looking for this year, & see some sites will not accept charcoal bbq's. Major disaster!!, no son of hibachi!! Anyway seems we can hire a gaz one from site or buy a gas one before we go, or use the communal site one? My dearly beheaded doesn't seem to impressed with the latter, so the question is, do people keep the site bbq clean or will it be a case of cleaning up before using it. I thought it could be a nice relaxed way of meeting fellow campers, sharing a couple of beers etc, without being too "in your face" kind of vibe, so advice from experienced globetrotters will be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance folks!

See you all soon, Bernard!

We've seen all sorts - some where the ashes and the grills seem to be really clean, others not - and a lot depend on how they're used.  Many people just seem take their small barbecue and put it on top of the brick-built communal one - and then take it home again to keep it clean.  The grills on some of the communal bbq's we've seen aren't the sort of thing I'd like to cook my best piece of fillet on!

Mind you, we're only ever on sites in low season, so I'm not sure what it will be like when campsites are full.

Used them several times - we did bring a cheap gas BBQ with us one year, but it was too feeble and took forever to cook for four of us.
Bring a cheap wire brush, the cast iron grills come up a treat with a good scrub, just remember to wipe all the bits off. They don't seem to be used a great deal at any of the sites I've been to - and that's in July / August.

You don't see firelighters / fluid so much as in UK either.
