So we have a perfectly acceptable and useful thread which also happens to be perfectly entitled "Pictures of your pitch", and from nowhere, we get photo's of the view, but no idea how big/flat/grassy/private/shaded/sunny (etc, etc!) the pitch actually is... or at least was, at the time.
We won't know whether we can fit our awnings on, or whether we have anywhere to hang the washing! We won't even know if we'll have to park the car smack bang between our unit and said "wonderful view". We won't know that the main path/gateway to the river is directly down the side of our pitch, or that we are pitched right next to the dog walk!!
There's already some lovely looking views above... but I'll be damned if I'm pitching my tent on a concrete car park!
I know I've chilled out a hell of a lot since I started camping, but even so, this sort of mayhem ain't for me (and mark my words, it will be mayhem from here on in!)
Shame on you, Val A! I thought better of you!
I think I need to go and lie down!

Aaah... That feels better already!

Sorry Mucker! I like the view from your pitch.
Yes, we probably should respect the original title, and maybe start another thread - 'Views from our pitch' (making sure it says where it was and ideally a pitch number) so that if it fits someone's 'ideal' they know which pitch to ask for!
I guess for many of us 'out of high season' travellers, we generally have the pick of any pitches on any site, and can pick and choose which pitch suits us, once we've found a site in an area we want to visit. So the details of a pitch are less important to us than the location of a site, and the views from the pitch once installed upon it!

Actually Val, you make a good point about some people being more concerned about the location and/or view than the actual pitch. I can see where you are coming from... and I'd hope your apology was as tongue in cheek as my post was!
Must admit, I have been guilty of concentrating too much on the pitch itself, for the most part, but having recently spent a fortnight on a dry, dusty, grass-less, part shady, (and uneven, to an extent) pitch in the SoF, for the first time, I must admit, it was nowhere near as bad as I imagined it would be. In fact, I felt quite the "proper camper! Maybe lush grass is a little overrated after all! LOL!
Being such a late starter in camping life, I realise I still have a long way to go, but each trip brings a little more knowledge, and a little more "experience". And long may that continue!

And you and I both wrote reviews within a few days of each other of Camping Fontisson this year......saying we were both underwhelmed. It wasn't photogenic was it?

This was our last ("main site") French pitch, from a different angle...

That was quite a dip from the rear half of the pod to the front half. In bare feet, on tent carpet, it needed balance and concentration to stay on your feet, in all honesty!
I'd have almost certainly ignored that pitch a year or so ago, so at least it proves I am chilling out more, lately!
We could have had flat, to be fair, but we'd then have struggled to get the full set up on, as the flatter pitches that were still available when we arrived (without booking) were a fair bit shorter.
Mmmmm, I have heard a few excuses in the past but blamimg the pitch for falling over after a few drinks ...
