I'm trying to plan this summer but I can't decide.Me and the wife will be going to France again this year on my motorbike for our second visit.Lasy year we ended up in the Midi-Pyrenees and had a great time.I had thought about going back but  we want to see other parts of France.

I am thinking the Rhone-Alpes but am attracted to Brittany as well.I'm sure I will choose the Alpes but what would be your choice.I'm not worried about the distance as we would probably stay in a hotel for a couple of nights travelling to and from.

We've decided to go to the Black Forest late May/June,I just can't make up my mind for August yet.

Its more likely to rain in Brittany & it could well be colder which might be an issue if you are biking.

No contest. For me it would be the Rhone Alps every time, particularly the Savoie and Haute Savoie regions. There are some lovely areas stretching from Geneva down through Chamonix and the Mont Blanc range to Annecy with its excellent lake. To the south-west you have got the fantastic Ardeche gorges while a bit further south you can be in the sun baked wilderness of Drome and northern Provence. Oh heck, I'm dreaming of getting back there myself.

Been to the Rhone Alpes many times and love it. Went to Brittany one June, but although it was ok, it did rain a lot, and was full of Brits, you can see why they like it. I found the language thing strange too, I can manage French but in Brittany you have Breton too, a bit like Welsh.

Just with a couple of replies I've made my mind up,Rhone-Alpes it is.

Now have to start planning, probably two hotel overnighters on the way there,10 nights there and two more hotels on the way back.300 miles on a bike is way more demanding than it is in a car, but much more fun.

Need to start searching for a campsite.I;m not worried about nightly entertainment or pool, stunning views would be great.Does anyone have any ideas.

The Rhone Alples area is a huge one - including the areas already mentioned, but also the Ardeche area to the 'other' side of the Rhone, with equally spectactular scenery - and a real bikers route if you go across the plateau through St Remeze, downhill into Vallon, and then along the Ardeche Gorge.

re campsites valkrider.  Up towards the north of the region we have stayed several times at the Taninges municipal les Thezieres and found it fine. Nice views and handy for Geneva and Chamonix. Further up the valley towards the Sixt de Fer Cheval there is another nice looking site at Samoens. If you are heading a bit south into the Drome region can rcommend la Ferme Clareau at Motte Chalancon. If you google Drome campsites there are loads to choose from.

Hi- just to add a voice for all breton-philes!!!

Love it- been most years over the last 17!! can count rainy days on 2 hands, must be lucky. As for it being full of brits- depends where you go- we love Beg Meil and go there precisely because you can go for 2 weeks and not hear a british voice till you get back to roscoff!!

We opt for smaller sites with fewer amenities which seem to be populated by french/dutch- and head for harder to reach beaches and have a wonderful french holiday!

Probably not as much fun riding breton roads on a bike- the alps win hands down there!!

happy riding!!

I am thinking of doing a quick trip to the Vosges - I have driven the Route des Cretes a few time ..... really fancy it on the bike. Then on to the Brand Ballon. Not too far from Calais, either. I reckon a few nights at the excellent Municipal at Metz (it right by the river in tyhe centre of the city, if people don't know it) and I should be within easy striking distance of some serious "twisties."
