Hi

We have a long motorhome and we also tow a trailer on the back.  Every year we travel down to the South of France usually spending 2/3 nights on the way down and up.

Becuase of our size I usually book in advance and check that they can take units of our size but sometimes translations get lost and when we arrive access and the pitches can be quite difficult.

So I am now about to start planning our holiday and just wondered if anyone has any recommendations for sites in France that have really good access and good pitch size - particularly for motorhomes.  The route we take is usually Calais, Reims, Troyes, Dyjon, Lyon - down to Aix and turn left towards the South.

Any recommendations would be gratefully received

Thanks

We do the journey to Perpignan using the same route as mentioned but we only stop over the one night at Château de l'Epervière which is approx 70 miles above Lyon.
Calais to Eperviere is 420 miles and then 340 miles the next day. Great site and its even advertised as a stop over on the way south. No problem with manoeuvring room for large outfits.

Kawan Village Lac d'Orient near Troyes on the way south has some pretty big pitches for motorhomes. 414km from Dunkerque/Calais and is quick if you use the autoroute. If you are not in a hurry take the slow route and save on the tolls. Its a campingcheque site if you are travelling out of high season.

Really nice campsite with indoor and outdoor pools to help you relax after your journey and super shower block. Free wifi at the bar. Takeaway/restaurant not bad but not cheap. Nice Pizzaria across the road from the site overlooking the lake but again not cheap.

Hi
Thanks for this - I will have a look at these. I think doing it in 1 night might be a bit much but this year we are giving ourselves 3 days to get down so could see.
I am a bit concerned about the roads this year as we are travelling the first week of August - def the wrong time to hit French roads!!! I blame the Olympics keeping me in the country!! Do you think the slow route would be quicker.
Thanks Katie

hi frizzer,

As you say first week in August could be very busy but on the basis that the French don't like paying tolls you may find the autoroutes just as good or better at least as far as Dijon where you might start to meet up with the Paris traffic heading towards the south east area.
