Tomato Puree to Spain? - Like taking coal to Newcastle. Better take the rice for the Paella as well
Hi Oliver,
I appreciate the irony too. The fact is, they don't sell it. Having said that, I wouldn't use it for paella. I'd use the Frito but I told it as I found (or more to the point, DIDN'T!!!)
Tomato Puree in a tube is concentrated. When they sell it in Spain they don't bother removing the water that only gets added back in, so, as you did, use the 'normal' Frito puree like the one in the box that's in the picture on Val's post. Even better get the thick and fresher puree that's often sold along with olives etc in the markets or as Val suggests you can use fresh tomatoes.

Sounds good. I have not been self catering in Spain always all inclusive. I know there is a very large Carrefour, Lidl and Aldi in Benidorm. We went to France last year SC and it was expensive for most things and about double our price for butchery. Could not get proper bacon where we were. I speak quite good holiday Spanish so have no problems talking to butchers etc. I like cooking, I have a multi cooker I can use alfresco.
I must admit when we've been to Spain in the past we've found everything cheaper than France - car hire, good quality hotels, and food from supermarkets, and markets, pluse Menu del Dia's are really good value! That's the reason we chose to fly into Barcelona to visit our friend near Carcassonne - it was cheaper to hire a car in Spain and drive up, than hire the car in France. Our overnight hotel was cheaper than France, and we had an excellent evening meal for not very much at all.
I did 'All Inclusive' when my youngest son was twelve and he certainly took advantage, but it wasn't the same as a relaxing caravanning holiday
Maybe, once you've got back, you should report on your findings.

Marmite definately and your preferred tea although as has been said before on the coast most things are possible to find. The bacon here is not good, IŽd say bring some and the cheese if you like strong cheddar is not very flavoursome.
Carrefour usually has a `foreign` section for the unusuals.
Have a good trip.
