I've used the fairfx card for the last 4 years. Used in Italy, France and Germany with no probs. Also offers one of the most competative rates. Will use it again for three separate European holidays this year. Bought online.

Another vote for Fairfx. Used in France and Ireland for the last 3 year's with no issues for purchases and ATM withdrawls. Easy to load and good rates.

We use FairFX as well. Charges 1 euro 50 cent every time you withdraw cash at an atm. No charge for use in stores. Just be wary if using at a petrol station as around 80 euros was held for a few days after filling. No idea why but it appears standard practice. We use cash for filling up. Also didn't work on peage sections of motorway, so again used cash.

We used Thomas Cook, the only trouble we had with it, when one machine decided to swallow it
One phone call to Thomas cook and it was replaced within 24 hours.

We've used Caxton. The only problem we've had with pre-paid in France is at self service petrol pumps. We had enough to cover the petrol but apparently such places operate by some system where they have to reserve xx amount up front. I can't remember the details but apart from that everything worked well and easy to top up, 2nd card etc

We used the Thomas Cook  version, back in 2009 and 2010, worked a treat, they give you a back up card, in case somthing happens to the main card, if it does, then one phone call gets your cash put onto the back up card, it's a good system and just about failsafe.

We only used the card to draw cash, we loaded it with £750 which was plenty for our 3 week holiday, all other none cash purchases were made with a regular credit card.

The Thomas Cook card, is simply a pre-loaded MasterCard, you get a good exchange rate, and from memory the charge for cash withdrawl was 2Euro per transaction, which is peanuts for the convienence it provides.

Remember the days of Travellers Cheques, what fun they were.

The FairFX card, does give slightly better terms than the Thomas Cook card, but if your spend is going to be under £1000 then any saving is negligiable imho.

We use the Post Office card and it worked well for us. Funnily enough, I didn't check to see how much I had left on the card when we came back last time and only checked last night - €731 so I'm now a very happy something or another

Would definitely agree, I use the Fairfx EuroCard, and top it up as I go along. It doesnt work on the toll machines on the peage but it was reliable and commission free in shops and stores.

The auto petrol machines do reserve 80 euros on your card, and then it gets adjusted two days or so later to deduct the actual amount

If you order one from the link from martinsmoneysaver website you wont pay the £10 order fee! Brilliant. Make sure you order the euro one though and its free for use in euro countries. Dont order it now though, in case the euro collapses!
