Hi
I am looking for any recommendations for a campsite in Brittany the week before Easter. I know there seems to be a bit of a struggle due to seasons and them not being open yet but if anyone knows of anything good I would be really grateful.

We would prefer to be North Brittany but I am pretty flexible
Thanks in advance
Katie

What dates are you looking at and any specific area?

Lovely site and a walk into pretty town.    Which port are you arriving at?

Hi everyone
Thanks for the information.
We will be going into Calais. We are in a large motorhome and having checked out the prices to St Malo I would rather pay a lot less and have an extra night in France.
We were looking at around St Malo and then we can tour during the week. Looking at 3 April until Easter Monday. We will then start our way home!
Many thanks
Katie

Hi Katie

Have a look at the ACSI card website (www.campingcard.co.uk) and the Camping Cheques website (www.campingcheque.co.uk) for a range of sites which offer discounts in low season.  On the website you should find plenty of sites which are open at the time you want to holiday - and you can arrange your 'tour' to fit in with sites you know are open.  You can search on a particular date so you can see exactly which sites are open and when.  If you use ACSI sites will cost either 10, 12, 14 and 16 euros per night, and this includes pitch, two adults, car and caravan (or motorhome or tent), awning and electricity!  If you use Camping Cheques the same 'package' will cost you £13.95 per night.

There are actually 606 sites in France which take the ACSI card on the 3rd April, so you've plenty of choice.  All departments of Brittany have a good range of sites.  Definitely worth a look.

Sorry should have posted this link for Camping Haliotis.   I would definitely go for  this one as it is so early in the season.    The town of Pontorson is pretty and you can walk to shops and restaurants.   It is a popular site with British and Dutch and accepts Camping cheques.

Thanks for this - looks great. Quick question about camping cheques as not too sure how they work. Do I reserve a pitch with the campsite and then just pay with cheques when we get there? Or do I book the pitch through camping cheques?
I am going to go for Camping Hallotis as it looks lovely.
Thanks again

Have you booked your ferry through the camping cheque website?   If so you will have some cheques included.   If not 3 camping cheques will cost you £51.35. to buy.   7 cheques will cost £104.15.      If you look up the website for the campsite they charge 136.5 euros  for 7 nights which is about £115 at the present rates so you save £10 but you pay for the cheques in Stg but then you are restricted to the camping cheque sites.

If you are happy to spend a week at Haliotis buy the cheques but if you prefer to move about a bit I might not bother.     As you are travelling from Calais will you be using camping cheque sites for you overnights as well? There are some good sites in the Picardy region that accept cheques.

You are not supposed to book sites with the cheques but to say on arrival that you will be using them.    Easter will be quiet in France but you could contact the sites and say you will be using cheques and can you book if you are worried about not booking but sites in France only really get booked up from mid July to mid August.

Any queries just ask.

Haliotis does 7 nights for the price of 6 Camping Cheques, and the Camping Cheques are £13.95 each, making it a bit more of a bargain at £83.75 for seven nights!

I wouldn't even book  - honestly it absolutely won't be necessary at Easter.  I know we're really not used to that in this country, but outside two weeks in July and two weeks in August it's rarely necessary to book anywhere.  You just turn up at reception, ask for a pitch and explain that you'll be paying with Camping Cheques.  Hard to believe, but all us old hands rarely book!

Sorry Val, should have noticed 7 nights for the price of 6.   That does make it worthwhile to get the cheques.

Thanks for this. I did the price of the ferry on the website which looked a lot cheaper. Just turning up does sound a bit scarey!! My only concern with just turning up is that our motorhome is very long so I need to make sure we get a pitch big enough.

Thanks for all your help though

Haliotis has some really big pitches so you can still use the cheques and pay any extra needed for the bigger pitches.

Email them with your motorhome length and say that you would like to use cheques and they will let you know if there are any extras to pay for.  They will use English if you are not sure about your French.
