For a vehicle which is so old you'll probably find that few breakdown insurers will insure you.  One which will is the Germany Motorists Club ADAC.  If you search for ADAC or breakdown insurance you'll find lots of detail, but basically they will insure you for abroad and in this country for a year, any number of trips, for 98 euros for their 'Partner Plus' policy which covers you and your partner, as a driver or passenger in any car.

There are other 'specialist' breakdown insurers, who deal with older vehicles and perhaps someone else who has got a similar vintage vehicle may be able to help.

We've got an S reg people carrier and had no trouble getting breakdown insurance. 2010 through Tesco and 2011 with Red Pennant. Tesco charged the standard price but Red Pennant increased the premium because of the age of the car. There were a few who wouldn't look at cars more than ten years old but a fair number would with an increased premium.

We were in that position last year wth a 10 year old Volvo which had been covered by RAC under Volvo Assurance since new, but they wouldn't insure us unless we paid triple what we had been paying (and not claiming) Went with Green Flag for a reasonable price.

Thanks for the advice, OH has informed me last night that the van is actually a '98, so luckily it won't be an issue this year

Next year will be a different story though, so all the advice is well recieved

But isn't that fourteen years old?  Check breakdown policies well before you go and make sure you can get cover.

the benchmark seems to be 15 years. Older than that and most companies won't insure you it seems! getting quotes for £80-£100, if that seems about average?

We were at Le Pigeonnier last year .... loved it!
Have a look at our review of the site ... ideas on what to do, etc.
It is near-ish to Sarlat .... certainly half hour to 45 min drive ... so much depends on the Dordogne traffic ... which can be quite heavy in the hol season ... which is why the Vezere valley is so much better/quieter!
You'll love it!

We pay £50 for top level breakdown cover for a year with European cover. Through Kwikfit. Have to do it online as otherwise it's about £80. Try moneysupermaket.com for comparison.
