Last year we followed the favoured route, by many on this site, to avoid Paris from the A10 towards Rouen. I found it really challenging towing a caravan on the section immediately after the peage on the 2 lane carriageway with strong crosswinds, slow lorries, winding slowly through villages and a very poor surface plus diversions and lane closures on the dual carriageways.

However, I did notice that a new road (N154?) from Chartres to the A10 was under construction. Does anyone have any information about this?

Planning for September to go to the beaches near Agde!
Best wishes
Keith

Keith, I'm not sure which section you mean.  We use this route regularly, and I don't recognise your description at all.  The N154 isn't a new road, and has always connected the A10 with Chartres, either via junction 13 or junction 12 (where we tend  to join the A10 to avoid Orleans).  However, the N154 is a very straight road, very flat, and quite boring.  The only section where there were roadworks last time we were there was the Ymonville bypass which will avoid the village.

Our latest Michelin map doesn't show any new roads in the vicinity, but we've been caught out before when new roads have appeared on the ground before they've appeared in the map book!

If you mean the bypass around Ymonville, that was open last summer but is only about 4 miles.

I am towing my caravan to Benidorm late March. I have planned a route using some toll roads and some free ones. Calais to Abbeyville A16 toll then A28 to Rouen picking up the A154 after Rouen and on to Evreux, Dreux and Chartres. Then the N10 past Chateaudun, Vendome to Tours. The A10 to Poitiers, Angouleme and on to Bordeaux. N10 and A63 toll to the border. I have not driven in that part of France, does that look ok?

Fred.

Re the above route, does anyone know the cost of the toll for car and caravan on the A16 from Calais to Abbeville?

We travelled to Benidorm in Febuary using the N10 / D910 from Chartres to Bordeux , then A63 / N10 to Castets and through to Dax , Orthez and Oloron St. Mairie and the
Somport Tunnel .
Total cost from Calais to Benidorm with three overnight stops was €410 all in including €14 for tolls

I diven't fancy the Somport Tunnel way. I will be going past San Sebastian, Pamplona, Zaragoza and Valencia. My Costs estimate? Diesel 220e, Tours 19e, Urrugne (near the border) 49e (2 night stop), Zaragoza 20e, Tolls 70e. = 378e. I get 30mpg towing but budget 28.

Fred
