Hello, driving down to the Bay of Roses (Camping Aquarius) in August.
Can anyone recommend a camping stopover not to far from the A75 and 20-60ish miles south of Clermont Ferand? We want to leave about 250 miles for the next day. A campsite close to restaurants would be ideal.
Thank you

We've stayed a few times at La Grange Fort at Parentignat south of Clermont Ferrand, or Issoire, similar distance. Both are fine for overnight stops, and easy access to the autoroute. A bit further south is the municipal site at St Flour, at approx 100 km south of CF.

We have also stayed at La Grange Fort on our way to the south. We have also stayed at Le Clos Auroy at Orcet which is also near Clermont Ferrrand. There are likely reviews of both sites on here.

The municipal at Issoire is fine. Nice parkland setting, new toilet block a few years ago, close to the motorway, sensible prices without needing cheques or cards, plenty of space, no need to book. We'll call overnight in July as we pass.

We stayed at Le Clos Auroy for a week or so last year. It's convenient for the motorway(A75?) & very popular with Brits stopping overnight on their way south for a night or two, but you may not get in if you're hoping to just turn up as it is pretty much booked up in high season. It would be best to reserve a pitch.
There is a popular cafe/restaurant on site, but we didn't use it apart from take-away chips one evening. On our last night we struggled to find somewhere for a meal out, but after half an hour of driving found a ropey/rustic looking wee restaurant that I'd cycled past a few days before & they served us fantastic food.......I don't think we could ever find it again.

We use the stop over at St Flour, Camping International. It is quite literally off the A75.
There always appears to be spaces.
The town is a little drive away with plenty of places to eat.
Very nice campsite, we have stayed longer than one night, the region is well worth exploring.

We have used Issoire municipal a few times and can recommend it. There is a large supermarket on the opposite side of the Autoroute, which has a reasonable cafeteria if you dont feel like cooking after a days journey, plus has petrol station!

Issoire municipal, camping municipal du mas, is great for a stopover being right next to the motorway and vey close to supermarket (with a cafe), petrol station and a McDonalds.
