Hiya,

My partner and I are planning our first camping trip to France this summer and have decided upon the Dordogne (both of us liked it there as kids), we have always used this site in the past to check out sites and to plan our holidays. Does anyone know if there is a similar site for French campsites - or alternatively can anyone recommend any sites in the Dordogne.

Also - when looking at some of the campsites we have come across on the net, many indicate that low season starts towards the end of August.  This is when we were planning on having our holiday but will tourist places and restaurants still be open in low season? Any advice gratefully received!

Eric

The peak French holiday season is between the 2 public hols--ie mid July to Mid August---the Dutch & Germans as well as the French start their hols on the first weekend in July--by the middle of Aug it is jus about done--the campsites are emtying out so there will be plenty of room for you--the resturants etc will all be open for the rest of August so you will be ok---

Every day should be a holiday!

What type of site? There are loads of good campsites in the Dordogne. I stayed in Montignac and in St Julien de Lampon, the first on camping a la ferme, the latter one a good municipal alongside the Dordigne river.

If you're going at the end of August try the Camping Cheque Co Uk website - a camping cheque pre-pays for pitch, two people, car, caravan and electricity and costs just £9.95.  You can buy as many as you want - you can stay one night or as long as you want.  They have around 400 sites in France - see website for details.  You can get a brochure from them and there are several good sites in and around the Dordogne region - real value for money for the cost - guaranteed to be the lowest available price from anywhere else.  They can also book you a ferry - and at the moment are doing some really good deals.
